Guest darkwingduck1970
hey guys i was kinda of wondering if some one can explain to me if reverse gears are good for street use or not...
wallaby
I have found them to be pretty handy in parking lots.
Heckeng
Wallaby, that is too funny! Are you talking about a reverse patern valve body? For street use, I personally would stay away from them just because you ALWAYS have to shift manually. Slight HP benefit, but that won't matter on the street. kc8oye
The idea behind a reverse shift pattern, is that you are shifting AWAY from reverse, not towards it. i.e on a normal trans you go up to 2nd, up to 3rd.. OOOPs missed and hit reverse (I have done this, it sucks) on a reverse pattern, it's PRN123 no accidents.
Heckeng
Tim is right, that is why they have the reverse pattern, but you can only get them in full manual, so every time you take off, you have to start in 1, then go manually to 2, then to 3. there is no automatic shifting at all. Pain in the [censored] on the street. If the reverse lockout is what you are worried about, you can get the job done much easier and with less hassle with an aftermarket ratchet shifter.
