dsgmach007
Just bought a 70 Monte and it has a shift kit on it. It seems pretty aggressive. I can bark the tires while driving with no problems. My concern is, that the Monte shifts hard just going from park to drive or reverse. I mean enough to jolt the car pretty good. Is this normal? Sam (Bones)
what's your idle RPM? sounds like the idle speed is too high

dsgmach007
Gotcha... makes sense. Right now it idles around 900 or a little lower RPMs.
wallaby
You will find that a slower idle will probably work fine, but it might take a bit of carb idle mixture fiddling to get it happy. I've found that if the engine is going too fast, shifting into gear really pulls down the engine speed and makes for a hard shift...you'd think the speed needs to be that high to survive going into gear at all, but with the slower speed, the impact isn't as severe and the engine hardly notices going into gear.
