ejw71
Did either the 70 or 71 SS454 come with an aluminum intake mainfold? Mr70Monte
LS5's had a cast iron Quadrajet style intake. only the big blocks that had the rectangular port heads had factory aluminum intakes.
Landshark
Corvette engines came with aluminium intakes. the LS5 came with a Q-Jet intake, and the LS6 came with a Holley intake. At least in 1971.
wallaby
That may be true, but corvette intakes are NOT high-rise types. Because of hood clearance issues, they are shorter. L-88 was different, but so was it's hood.
DaveC
My 71 Monte SS454 LS-6 4 speed, documented with build sheet has an aluminum intake! j/k (probably the only way any Monte would have come factory with one) I did put the aluminum oval port intake from my 69 corvette onto my 70 monte. If its lower its not by much. The cast iron ones on the Montes were far from Hi-rise. ------------------ Dave C. 70 402 4spd Monte Carlo 71 SS 454 Monte Carlo 72 350 Monte Carlo 68 SS396 Camaro 86 Grand National 96 Impala SS
David Mau
Good one regarding the documented with build sheet SS454 LS-6 4-speed, Dave! wallaby
Yea, I had to read that one a couple of times before I saw the j/k.
ejw71
DaveC, Was the LS-6/4-speed dealer installed? Thought no SS454s with LS-6 450 hp or with 4-speeds were documented. This document info needs to be brought to attention of officer in charge of SS454 technical section. DaveC
Sorry Ed, I'm not interested in sharing any of the documentation with anyone Actually check the end of my first statement for the j/k....just kidding! Anyway, the LS-6 was available in 71 but only with the m-22 4 speed trans. I suspect had one actually been ordered that it would have come standard with the GM square port aluminum intake, just like an LS-6 Chevelle. ejw71
Yep, I'm slow. Not j/k. Ed
