  1. I happen to have mine off the car right now and am going to do this before reinstalling. Thanks Thomas!
  2. @MC1of80 What is this winding of the spring you speak of? Tell us more!
  3. Great picture, Rob!
  4. Not having a clutch fan is definitely a problem. Is it THE problem? Can't say for sure, but that car should have a clutch fan. They operate far more efficient than a direct-drive fan. Start there for sure. It's supposed to have one regardless and it may solve your issue completely.
  5. LOL!
  6. Thanks @Scott S. Scott!
  7. Did anyone ever come up with a definitive resolution to this? I need to replace the speedo cable on my 70 SB350/Turbo 350 and I see conflicting information. According to @1970mcss, the cable should be 64" but I can't find a cable that length anywhere. Even the OPGI cable is 78". If I use a longer cable, where does the extra length become a problem? Any tricks or install tips?
  8. Nice-ish car. I commented on the BaT thread about whether it's a real SS454 or not. I then edited my comments after seeing G67 (Auto Level Control) on the [partial] build sheet. This car is likely a legit SS454 although it may not have the original engine (missing CRN stamp). https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-chevrolet-monte-carlo-21/
  9. Sorry Steve, I'm laughing WITH you, not AT you. I noticed you updated your occupation to retired SMURF. LOLOLOLOL
  10. Welcome Drew!
  11. Wanted: air cleaner housing to valve cover breather tube. Does anyone have one? I found a couple on eBay but they want stupid money. Private message if you have one! Thanks!
  12. I agree, Rob. Nice car but not original and needs work to bring it up to snuff. I'm always concerned when engine mods have been done unless they have been really well documented.
  13. If anyone ever has the opportunity to buy something from Dennis (@MCfan), do it just for the pleasure of being witness to his box making skills. Seriously, the guy tells me he makes his own boxes and I'm in awe. Heavy duty with perfect folds and symmetry. It was so well done that I couldn't reverse engineer it to open it so I had to cut it, which made me a little sad. Dude could have a career in box design and engineering, no doubt. Pictures don't do it justice. 😎 Thanks for the extra care with my parts, Dennis!
  14. Congratulations, Tom! What a great day for you! I wish you nothing but happiness, rest, and relaxation in retirement. And of course more time to work on and drive your Monte Carlo. Thanks for all you do here! Bryan
  15. Hey guys. My 1970 350/Turbo 350 is numbers matching but the previous owner did some tasteful upgrades that I want to revert back to stock. I need the following items: Stock valve covers (pair) with holes for PCV, oil fill cap on left cover, crankcase ventilation on right cover. No wire loom support brackets. See attached photo. Stock cast iron exhaust manifolds. Non-A.I.R pump. See attached photo. Stock air filter housing for Quadrajet. See attached photo. If you have any or all of these, send me a private message. Thanks! Bryan
  16. I wonder if there are slight variations in hose manufacturing. The hose on my 72 sat in perfect position for the zip tie to wrap around the hose and push into the hole without the gap like yours; it was a perfectly snug fit. Here's a picture before I installed the zip tie (the only picture of the hose I could find). It looks like the hose sits a little more 'left' than yours.
  17. Unfortunately, no. I briefly considered upgrading to the larger radiator (just because) but my core support doesn't accommodate the 4-hole top plate. Besides, my 'standard' radiator is a 3-row unit so it should be more than adequate.
  18. @jft69z Yeah, in hindsight I feel somewhat silly for asking if anyone has a "method". I'm completely capable of trimming the hose. LOL
  19. My 1970 has the small (narrow) radiator with the 3-bolt radiator support topper as opposed to the wide radiator and 4-bolt topper. (picture attached). As you can see, the upper hose fits very poorly. I cannot find an alternate/correct hose. @FrankOC mentioned that this has been discussed on this site in the past but my searches have turned up nothing. Is anyone aware of a hose supplier or a way to trim this hose to fit properly? I can take a shot at it (trimming) but I'd rather not butcher a hose via trial and error if someone knows the method.
  20. I realize this is an old thread but I stumbled across it while looking for something else. I could not find a source for the upper hose tie down strap but I did use these on my 72, which worked very nicely. They have a built-in push pin that fits the hole in the shroud and then you just use it as any other cable tie. Slick! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0936L1ZFF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I put 15x8 4.5" backspace on my 72 without fitment issues (front and rear). Prior to the 4.5" backspace, the car had 4" backspace (front and rear), which rubbed front and rear over bumps or sharp turns. I wouldn't go any less than 4.5" backspace.
  22. "Circumsized" LOL
