  1. Where is the switch located and do you know what year the tranny is? Different years had switches for different things. Probably won't be back up lights. That switch is usually on the lower part of the column with the neutral safety switch.
  2. Everything but the 454 was available as an option on any Monte and most were also Chevelle options, so every plant had to be able to build the car as ordered.
  3. I've never seen just SS Monte option listings. I think most Monte SS's would have air. It was a popular option and the people who paid extra for the SS option usually got lots of other options to go with it. Montes were sold as luxury cars, not performance cars. The SS option was not advertised much. It is barely mentioned in the factory literature for 70 and the SS markings were conservative to say the least. It was pushed a bit more in 71 and SS was added to the rear to go with the fender emblem, but very few were sold. I think most people would only find it while checking out the options when buying a Monte. All of the SS Montes I see in my area have air and lots of other options.
  4. Since page 2 worked at your other email, I sent pages 3 and 4. Let me know if you get them.
  5. This is too big for your Juno email at 5.3 MB. I tried your other account again. It is an attachment.
  6. I will have to send them one at a time to Juno. The second email was too big for your mailbox. I will try again later when you clear out some space.
  7. It's 4 attachments. Your work firewall may not be letting them through. Ill try Juno with just one atachment. Four may have been too much for it.
  8. I tried your other email this time. Juno didn't work for some reason.
  9. I tried emailing you, but it came back as undeliverable. Do you have anothr adress?
  10. A hammer may be a bit much for the clock, If I can figure out how to work my fancy new fax, copier, scanner, I will send you the info by email. I'll work on it later today.
  11. AUTO restorer magazine http://www.autorestorermagazine.com/ar/Magazine.aspx?aid=14239&sts=all&sectionid=122 had a good article on restoring clock in the July 2005 issue. The clock shown was from a 71 Buick. The article has three pages with instructions and 12 photos. Available on back order and worth the money if you plan on redoing a clock.
  12. SS had chrome exhaust tips straight out the back, here is a link with a picture. http://www.firstgenmc.com/tech/ss454.shtml
  13. My 70 SS has a blue interior with black column and wheel. Anything could happen on the production line. It's possible a green one was put in because of a mistake in routing parts. If the right part isn't there, use the part you have. You don't stop the line.
  14. Several other things to check are the vacuum modulater, left rear of trans with hose connected to it, drain plug if you have one, and pan gasket. These leaks are hard to find since air movement under the car forces the fluid toward the back of the car while driving. When you stop, it drips from where it ended up. I just replaced the O ring on the dip stick tube on a Turbo 350. It leaked there and ran down the case to the pan and dripped off the back of the pan. You may have to get under the car and clean off the trans and then follow the fresh wet areas to their source. Good luck.
  15. I can get pictures for you tomorrow. Do you need a picture of the electrical connections?
  16. "big jim what problems u havin post some pic of the problem spot." Problem is getting the new speakers magnet to clear the printed circut. Original speaker had a rectangular magnet that was angled to avoid this problem. It can be done. Just need to be careful.
  17. "So will all GM A body cars share the same speaker brackets?" Not positive, but would suspect only 70-72 Chevelle and El Camino would be exactly the same. Lemans, Skylark, etc. have different dash set up.
  18. Cars without air conditioning got one front center speaker with the mono radio. All cars with air conditioning got two front speakers if the radio was mono or stereo. The extra duct for the air conditioning didn't leave enough room for the center front speaker.
  19. Please explain this to me: A 225/70/15 (standard size for our Montes) is 27.4" tall, a 245/30/22 is 27.9" tall If he keeps the over all height of the wheel and tire the same, it will work without too much extra strain on the tranny to get them rolling. I was posting more toward the bigger part of the "putting 22inch or bigger rims." Probably could have been clearer in my original post. Seemed to me he was looking for the biggest wheels he could find just for the look.
  20. You will put more strain on the tranny because you will drastically change the drive line. The effect will be similar to going from 4:11 rear gears to 2:56 rear gears. Your car will accelerate slower, your speedo will read way off, and it will take longer to stop the car because of the extra weight of the wheels and tires. The brakes really should be upgraded for this. You will also need to do suspension and maybe body mods to put these on without the tires rubbing on something. For the money this would cost, you could get some very fancy paint and/or engine work done to set yourself apart from the crowd.
  21. Check your cable from the carb to the tranny to be sure it isn't sticking or hanging up and keeping the tranny in passing gear. Check the vacuum line from the vacuum modulator to the engine. Hose on each end of the hard line. Vacuum leaks will cause delayed and/or hard shifting. If you find ANY tranny fluid in this line, the modulator is bad. Also, if you haven't changed the filter and fluid in a while, it probably wouldn't hurt.
  22. Is your heater control valve working? If it doesn't stop the flow of coolant through the heater core, you will be heating and cooling the incoming air at the same time.
  23. Working on front wheel drive transmissions is a major pain. The phrase "Please don't try this at home, we are trained professionals" come to mind. The transmission can be removed with the engine in the car, but the engine needs to be supported while you work on the trans. Find out what the cost of the job is at a trans shop and compare the cost of buying the parts and doing it yourself. You will need a good book to read and follow if you try this. Probably be cheaper to just replace the car. It would definetly be easier.
