  1. I -wish- mine was capable of shining up that nice... beautiful cars.
  2. Got mah engines and parts! Gotta tear down the 400 to see if there's any problems, then going to drop it in.
  3. Not gonna lie, I kinda want it...

Me and my baby towards the end of last summer. (Only pics I have of myself are with this car =P)
  5. Got the money together for repairs, and contacted the guy who has those engines for sale... Should be able to pick em up Sunday!
  6. I have the exact same problem monte0... That's something that would look sharp once I get the body cleaned up though.
  7. Can't help you with springs, but my car looks pretty darn good with 255/60R15 Cooper Cobras on it. Sits a bit higher in the front than the rear, but that'll (possibly) be corrected when I put the 400 in... As for size, if you want the same all the way around and no trimming, I think 255/60R15 is about as big as you can go.
  8. 400 small block less cam, carb and distributor, but he had them, 4 bolt main 350 (disassembled), 700r4 trans, the necessary parts to rebuild the 350, and an engine stand for $520. The 400 ran when he pulled it to put in an '88 firebird, so I'm thinking that'll be the Monte's new heart.
  9. Looked at a pair of engines and misc parts that were listed on Craigslist... looks like the Monte will be getting a heart transplant sooner than I thought!
  10. Anyone out there know how much work would be involved in making the stock TH350 mount up to an L33? Was the HO option in 2005-07 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups.
  11. I'm honestly not sure... The intake manifold gasket and headgasket both looked ok, beyond the damage I caused when I pulled the headgasket off, but I don't think the head itself was properly torqued down. It seemed to get easier to break the bolts loose the farther back I got. First time I've run into something like this, honestly.
  12. Hard to tell with the block still in the car, but it doesn't look like it's too bad... But then, it doesn't take much. Gotta wait a few weeks to build up some money before I can get started though, because it couldn't have happened -before- I had new exhaust installed =(
  13. That is a melted piston... And if the block is shot, I'm probably going smaller, but with bigger power.
  14. Quick question... Since I have to replace the pistons, should I also replace the connecting rods? This is the first time I've rebuilt anything but a school engine and I want to make sure I do it right the first time.
  15. I did not know that... Will remember to check them frequently, now.
  16. Yeah, same one Mike. Non-original pistons would explain why half the intake manifold bolts were loose, seems somewhere along the line someone hopped it up and didn't do it right. Wish I'd have known, I was told it was stock when I bought it.
  17. That was the plan... Unfortunately, due to budgetary constraints, she's gonna be out of commission for... probably the whole year =( Got a recommended brand for them, though?
  18. Oh right, I'm on the internet... XD
  19. Sam, I'm guessing it was likely loose bolts on the heads... they got easier to loosen the farther back I got, but I'm going to get the block checked just to make sure... I can't -see- anything wrong with it still in the car, (Other than the melted piston...) but that doesn't mean squat. Reese, thanks for the input, but I'd like to use this engine to show what a 350 can do. Just about everyone at my work is telling me to swap it, so, my stubborn streak kicked in pretty hard XD What's the difference between forged and hypereutechtic pistons, other than one being really hard to spell?
  20. Pulled off the head this morning, in an effort to replace what (I thought) was simply a bad head gasket... Found the #5 piston looking quite melty, with some of it built up around the top of the cylinder. So, is it likely that I will be able to get by with just honing them out and replacing the pistons, or am I going to have to bore it out? And... anyone who can point me in the right direction for good deals on the parts would be greatly appreciated...
  21. Pulled the driver's side head off, found this little beauty occupying Cylinder #5 Sooo... anyone have anything cool I should do when I go to rebuild?

I recommend that you upload to an image hosting site, and then use [*img][/*img], with the link between the two, and no *s.
  23. 300 isn't too bad... Cheaper than a new one, at any rate, and I'd know it'd fit.
  24. Yeah, had them both down when I was driving it home yesterday. Sounded great with the new exhaust I put on last weekend, until she overheated >.>
