  1. Beautiful!!!! Love the way the quarters are done...They look factory!!! Congrats and enjoy!!!! Steve
  2. Quote: thanks Scott...now go put your motor in.... We'll be doing that this weekend!!!!! Congrats on the move and the nice track...we can only drool and wish for a track here on Long Island. The Velle runs awesome!!!! Steve
  3. lol...I don't know what Sam's clever idea is but if I were you I'd start by cutting a half coil first and see where you land. Use a cut off wheel so you don't generate too much heat..... Better yet...save yourself aggrevation and spend the $60 for the correct factor springs. My 2 cents, Steve
  4. Congrat's Darren on the Monte and glad to see you feeling better!!! So is the picture Rob posted the actual car? The top is done very well on that one...The quarter panels look right. Steve
  5. It's too high for the geometry of the stock components to work... No wheel alignment is going to fix that unless you currently have a ton of shims already in there to take out.....Car needs to be lowered. My 2 cents, Steve
  6. Tight-e-nough.....lol... Sorry, couldn't help myself. It's not much...I think something like 10lbs... What I like to do is hold the ratched by the head and tighten the bolts. This way you have limited leverage and then just make them good and snugg..... never had a problem. Steve
  7. Low opinion...I wouldn't put there stuff in my lawn mower.... Sorry Tony...I hope yours is the exception but I went through 3 cams and on the last one a lifter literally came apart and the parts flying around nearly took out my numbers matching block (hole right through the oil pan less than an inch away from the block)...Their response..."We're not responsible, we'll only replace the cam". I now have over 10,000 miles on my engine...all Crane Cams stuff....no issues and lets face it, I'm not easy on the car. Steve
  8. Saw the last post from Dan, that is good news!!!! Get better Rob!!! Steve
  9. Sounds like a soft dist. gear to me... I don't know what a "melonized" gear is but on Scotts solid roller engine the brass gear on the dist. went bad, we simply replaced it and changed the oil and all was good. We recently pulled the engine (for a freshen up) and all the bearings were in good shape. Good luck in however this turns out. I'm sure GM is going to make you jump through hoops but in the end I think they'll make good. Steve
  10. Thanks guys...I pulled the new set out after we got back from the past weekends racing...only got to make 2 passes so I'll save them for September when we have the track rental. Steve
  11. Get well soon Rob...your in our prayers...... Steve
  12. Looks great!!!...but I'm partial to Black 1971 Monte SS's....lol. Steve
  13. Thanks for sharing...that was cool but agreed...sad at the same time....how great some of these plants were..... Steve
  14. So we typically go to the track twice a year, once in July and then again in September/October. I've typically changed my plugs each time I've gone but someone told me that if your plugs aren't real old and the car is running right (nice golden brown plugs)that I should be good for at least the season without changing them? So what's your opinion? Steve
  15. Very cool fun...and someone else's car makes it all the better!!! Steve
  16. It sucks when the nearest track is 2-3 hours away....We know that here on Long Island.... Tranny sounds like it's toast and needs a rebuild... and for the trip your about to take, better safe than sorry. Steve
  17. I learn something new every day around here!!! Great stuff!!! Steve
  18. Here's mine up on the lift...they actully look lower here because of the angle. I see your in NY Jamie...where abouts are you? We get together all the time if your on the island! Steve
  19. For a 555 cubic big block I don't think the Sanderson will be enough Dan...But here's a pic of that awful angle you have to make with the exhaust..... I have the Hooker 2455's in mine, they fit nice and I have yet to scrape them....actually just once...too fast over a big dip in the road at an intersection...my own stupid fault but it was still only minor. But they are pretty..... Steve
  20. I think a few extra gallons shouldn't cause any real issue for you as long as that's something you want....but it does sound like a lot of effort to me.....but it will be a one of a kind! Steve
  21. Very true but apparently there is not a big enough demand for the aftermarket to make them. I heard a few years ago that someone had bought the original molds but nothing ever came of them.... Steve
  22. Don't waste your time on this old beat up tank..is this post before or after you found the Chevelle tank? In any case...spend the $160 and buy a new tank..... it's well worth it in your time and effort to "maybe" fix this one.... My 2 cents, Steve
  23. Hmmmmm... A 1970 Chevelle gas tank should be the same as a Monte's....you sure of what you have? If it's a "California" Chevelle tank and your Monte is also a California Monte, they should both have the same vent tubes on the top rear..... check both before you go through the expense of changing the necks. Steve
  24. Welcome Mike, That's a heck of a story you have there and an ambitious plan for your Monte......good luck with all of it. As far as your question about the air cleaner, you can fabricate something from a Chevelle cowl induction hood or there are plenty of cold air kits on the market. I've had a few years working on Monte's so check my web site if your looking for some ideas. Steve
  25. Looks great Jared!!!! Love the color of your Monte too.... Steve
