  1. Quote: From my cars build sheet the production job sequence number is 1205 and a Sched. No. Date 02 09-03; how does that compare to you guys? Is there a way to identify the engine assembly date? My production sequence #: 7798 Scheduled Date: 15 03-19 I have no clue as to where any of the engine info - engine plant stuff is on this build sheet.
  2. Mine is also a Kansas City Built SS but I do not have chrome valve covers......of course I am the 6th owner. From what previous owners have told me and how they felt about the car, I doubt mine ever had chrome ones - mine are just painted orange.
  3. I want you to know that my data plate confirms my car was built with buckets and no center column - I have shifter column. And a build sheet that confirms it is a real SS. Some people just "know it all" As long as YOU know the truth!!
  4. yah, my interior is all black - hhmm, didn't think of the heat/BURN your legs factor. Something else to think about....
  5. OK, so my data plate clearly shows my car was made with cloth bucket seats.....we are planning on putting the buckets back in next Spring. As it is a real 71SS I hate to do anything to deter from its original creation. BUT...I keep wondering how bad would it be to change the seats from cloth to vinyl? Ya think it is sacrilegious or OK to do it? How many people would look at the data plate & KNOW that it should be cloth? Would it take that much (or anything) away from its value? Side note: Are all 71 have side mounted or top mounted batteries?
  6. I saw them in the Harmons Catalog & Luddy's about $15
  7. So, I look and I have this lovely HUGE binder with a million pages... ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS FOR 1971 CHEVELLE EL CAMINO AND MONTE CARLO All decal info is in here along with everything else we could want to know.
  8. Bruce: Hey your car is all original - can you email me a few pics of your engine comrtment so I can see your decals? Getting the decals is not the problem it is knowing which we already have & what may be missing. Thanks!
  9. Posted also in 454 forum) Yes, it is me once more with additional questions! For those that have an original or exact restoration to a 71 SS454...... We need to see a photo(s) of your engine compartment to see which decals are there & their placement. We believe we may be missing a couple. ******** THANKS TO EVERYONE for your help with all the questions I have asked lately as we try & pull this car together for Indy in a few weeks. We really appreciate all the responses & all the extra effort that has come from those that have gone the extra mile tohelp us out. GREAT GROUP HERE!!
  10. YES That is the one!!! See, Mickey Mouse ears! LOL! I'll go check the site.....Thanks, Jim!!
  11. Thanks for the pics! I believe the bottom one is the one we almost bought but neither look like the original we have. Yes, it is a 4 bbl q-jet. Our is the like bottom pic except the top is shaped like mickey mouse ears cut out (rememebr the mickey mouse club hats?).
  12. As if the springs have not been frustrating enough...yah still an issue for us . Going to put originals back in, measure & see where the car sits. May need them shims - Where do you buy them???? Now we need a carb gasket & after 2 parts stores no luck - even checked out that ROCKAUTO.com Link that someone just provided and they show what the parts store does. Mine (best way to describe) looks like mickey mouse ears inside. It is really tough to find these parts anymore.......it is going to be a miracle if my car makes it to Indy with all the road blocks that keep popping up. There may not be enough Rum in the world to keep Greg going
  13. Darn it - today I am locking up - won't let me post or shout..... no idea what firefox is so I must not have it......
  14. Ian: wow are those $70 EACH?? Glad I don't need them! Though Greg is hitting the meets for new beauty rings - original kind with the clips on them.
  15. While I'm in here I find the font changes back & forth from larger to smaller & the font itself without notice - pretty weird but no locking up.
  16. There is my husband, me & our 2 sons. I think it'll be obvious which one I am! What a great lookin group! Looking forward to seeing some of these faces in person this July!
  17. XXXXXXX: Awww, thank you so much for the sweet reply! I truley am so very excited - everytime I go out into the garage I just smile & glow! I have always shared my husbands enthusiasm & love for cars but honestly, not to THIS extent. We've entered a whole new level & he is enjoying every moment of it!
  18. FB: I still do not know for sure what I need - my husband has to double check to see which parts are there & which are missing. Check back after you return from vacation unless I find out sooner....Thanks!
  19. Hi, What would you want for it? Where in Ohio are you located? Thanks, Capri
  20. And of course, it goes without saying - start searching (& hope to find) the build sheet! Or locate the original owner Good Luck to you!!
  21. Nate, I agree I would feel just fine having the parts present but it not necessarily be working. I just want my car to be what it is suppose to be as much as possible. Thanks! Capri
  22. Thanks Ron - Keep me posted. As soon as Greg (my hubby) checks out my car - I'll know what to also check with Leo for.
