  1. I sold my 72 monte years ago. It ended up in Tennessee and last i heard about it was years ago when it was at good guys show and got its pic in good guys mag. Picked up a 70 monte with halo top. I hate modifying complete cars but since this one was just a shell, frame, 12 bolt I don't feel to bad about modifying it. Trying to figure out what to do with it. Lots of parts for it just no time.
  2. Thanks everyone. I could not locate any more information on column shift conversion. I had recalled using a late model shift linkage. Thank you for confirming that it is something consider if the linkage isn't quite right. I'll post a pic later this week of the car in its current state. It's coming along slowly. Charlie
  3. Shiftworks does not have it. They stop 1969. It is longer than the space available.
  4. Long time since I have been on the board. Currently helping a friend solve an issue. 700r4 installed in a 72 monte with column shift. 1) column shift indicator? Cannot seem to locate one that allows for Park R N OD 321 2) I recall a long time ago the shift linkage from column shift (former TH350) to a 700r4 had to be modified or parts used off a late model with 700r4.
  5. you'll love m and h used them on my monte not one issue. good choice.
  6. 4l60 or 4l60e? the E version requires a computer for the shift points. Datadave...it was my impression 94 and up trucks have the 4l60E trans which does away with the T.V cable. Also for the life of me I cannot remember which mag i read it in but Todd's description on what to do about the shift linkage is very similar to what I remember reading. I installed a 700r in the monte and used a caprice (91 year) brake switch to allow for the lock-up. From the salvage yard i was able to get the switch and the plugs with a few inches of wire. had no issues putting it together in the monte. Also you can tell if you locking/unlocking by slowly accelerating and then lightly press the brake pedal just enough to cause the brake lights to come on but not enough to apply the brakes and with a tach you should see an 300-400 rpm jump. when you let off the rpms should return to previous rpm prior to braking. This indicates your torque convertor is locking/unlocking correctly. Shiftworks.com i believe sells the console shift conversion and i'm not sure about the column shift.
  7. if the place you took the tranny to did not reset the T.V. cable that would cause a burnout. anytime the tranny is serviced/rebuilt, this adjustment needs to be made.
  8. we'll i may or may not be there. i have to go down there to drop some stuff off.
  9. Billie, when do you think you'll be there tonight?
  10. well shoot Charles and I were just down there. I won't be back down there till Saturday. Alex, Charles, and I will be there. I have to attend to the camaro project for the majority of the day but i have obtained a sander that will greatly speed up the process.
  11. update, Apparently the front fenders where brazed or simply tack welded on and possibly be cut loose from the body. The driver's side fender is now bare metal and we only have about a 1/4 of the roof left to strip.
  12. Congrats on the four years. Lots of stuff can go on in a person's life that consumes all time. Again congrats. Well this might be an excellent time to have a link to what duties each individual person does who holds a position for this club such as president, vp, etc. Benefits of this would be: 1) people would know who to contact when the need arises, thereby reducing duplicates or overflow of emails and phone calls. 2) possibly allow people to be more involved the club (for example: if the VP is in charge of item A then the possiblity of people having a similar interest would be able to help the VP. 3) Set-up a guideline for members who hold positions possibly setting limits of time so no one feels they carry the load forever. 4) Set-up a way to elect a new Pr, VP etc. 5) are there written records on what has taken place from dealing with bad apples to decsions on why certain things occur available to the next P, Vp etc. If not there should be some abbreviated minutes etc that would/could be used as a reference for the future leaders of this club. 13. no pics guys sorry. have to get them tomorrow.
  14. Billie Started stripping paint off the hood and roof of car. Charles came down and we got the passenger side door open. Just needed a good kick although has a dent now... j/k. Sprayed some lubricant on the latch and it works just fine.
  15. Billie, my only concern if you get your top custom made to match the color of the car will be with the correct distance and seam style that is should have. I would verify that the grain texture of the material, seams, and thickness will be the same as it would be if you purchased the top from a supplier such as year one. As stated before the top that was on the car was not the original top and was also a different texture and thickness. I would hate to see you spend 700-800 for a top only to have it wrong.
  16. Billie, I used paddoc for my top. I'm sure they are all made by the same supplier or limited number of supplier. Paddock is retailer located in knightstown indiana just east of indianapolis about 20 mins.
  17. hey billie I got the top put on at a place in effingham. just spoke with him. If the top is supplied by the car owner it will be 250 or less. So i would count on 250.00. THis is the same place that installed my top and i was very happy with the job. We could see if this is something we can do but i personally have never done one and i'm not familar with any pitfalls associated with putting one on. Anyone here on the board have suggestions? I have placed another call in for the stripping place in danville.
  18. billie, i have had parts stripped in e-ville and everything comes back in great shape. Also i have sent alex some photos of your car as to where damage exists etc. C.
  19. just so you know for the future. A automotive shop in danville just up the road from where i live sells POR15 products. So if this is needed in the future. we could save the 9.00 shipping cost etc. Also as Alex stated I have donated the hood cage from a hood that was warped by a media blasters ignorance. I was planning on using the metal from the hood for other projects and had no use for the cage. Alex, i'm moving my office today will check email/board occasionaly if you call my office phone or cell leave a message. i'm still planning on going down tonight...maybe we can get the pass side door open.
  20. hey mid. I won't be able to meet you guys tonight as you drop off the monte...however, you are going right by were i live if you take I-74. We will be able to do just about anything you want done to the car. I have an HVLP system that Alex is using successfully to paint his gas tank. We have the space and tools to paint/repair including a twin post car lift. We have helped other members in the past and look forward to helping you. Charlie72
  21. Arden, If you need a place replace your heater core. let me know. You can use the shop.
  22. The washer switch does not pull out. Reach back and unplug it. It is held in by small screws I think two of them. The climated controls are the same way. There are two screws on top and some below. Be very careful the plastic is brittle and breaks/strips out easily.
  23. If you are using the driveshaft from a TH-350 it will work. Not sure on the difference from 27 to 26 splines. It should fit just fine. The only thing I know that you have to do is shorten the driveshaft. I did not change u joint sizes or anything. just had a machine shop shorten and balance my driveshaft.
  24. http://www.por15.com/stripper_solvent.html#POR-GloVinylRoofRestorer I have had good luck with other products from them.
