  1. Nick, there are a bunch of websites but here are a few to get you started. http://www.ls1lt1.com/ http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=196181 http://ls1tech.com/forums/ ( I know LS1, but alot of similaritites with the install) http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/6_speed.html A couple things to keep in mind. If you decide to go with the complete LT1 setup, it will act like a normally asperated motor (gas mileage) unless you hook up ALL the sensors and have the ECU reprogrammed for your application. If you use an auto it takes a little more ECU work than just having the T56. The cost can range from a couple hundred to 800 + depending on things. There is a guy in Oregon that will tune your harnesses (he needs source and destination harness) to all the sensors for around $400. If you use a premade harness, you still have to reprogram the ECU and then thats were the 800+ comes from. The tunnel hump may or may not have to be modified/raised to install the T56, it just depends on the series you get. Another big issue is the motor positioning. You can get the motor mounts that will bolt right up, but they do make adjustable ones that you can move the motor forward or backward depending on the where you want it. The reason is that some have had to modify the firewall to get em in there. This is mostly the AC unit, but if your going no air, then an AC delete panel will work for you and you can use the cheaper mounts. Read alot and decide where your gonna go. Kevin
  2. Leo can help you out. Call him and talk to him on the phone, best quarter you will ever spend. Take a look at the website too. http://www.koniksklassiks.com/ Kevin
  3. I know it is up here in Seattle, but to get an idea. http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/pts/2229438032.html Kevin
  4. You are correct, the 83/84 SS MC's did not get the 200R4 until the late 84 production run, but they installed the 200R4 in all Monte Carlo SS's starting in 85 thru 88. Kevin
  5. The Buick Grand National, T-Type and GNX were from 1982 to 1987, and the SS Monte Carlo from 83 - 88 and should all have the 200R4 transmission in them. I believe the 1987 GNX has the strongest 200R4 as it had modifications, as well as a custom torque converter, but because it was / is a GNX transmission, it is going to cost you. Your best bet IMO is to go with a late 80's 200R4 from an SS Monte Carlo. Kevin
  6. I would build the one you have, better the DEVIL you know..
  7. My recommendation is to do a little more research. There are some tranmsissions that rerquire no mods to the tunnel, and they will come thru the correct shifter hole in the floor. Here is a list of most of the T56's and the torque specs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg-Warner_T-56 This kit claims no mod's required.. http://www.classicchevy5speed.com/Chevelle-GTO-Impala-Kit-Select.aspx Most of the research that I have done has been with an LSX swap included. There is not as much documented info about just swapping a 5 or 6 speed into a car without mods, and that is mostly the tunnel. Basically what it is going to come down to is a smaller transmission that requires no mods will not back up a high torque motor, but a higher torque transmission will require a tunnel mod, or buying the kit from a place that say "no mods to tunnel required". Viper transmissions are a little smaller and do have a higher torque spec, but I think it will require a mod to the tunnel. Just no way of telling for sure unless you can find somebody who has done it before. Kevin
  8. Anybody have any pictures of one installed? Kevin
  9. Try this link. It has all the dimensions for the transmission. I/e length from Bellhousing to tailshaft, and then all the shifter positions and measurements. http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/5_speed.html http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/consoleinsert.html (picture of an "A" body floor console) Kevin
  10. Put a wheel lug nut on one of the lugs, and using that as a reference point. Have a friend/wife/GF turn the drive shaft 1 complete revolution. Count how many times the lugnut makes a complete revolution. Example is, 1 turn of drive shaft and 3 and 1/4 in turn equates to 3.25 or probably close to a common ratio of 3.23. Hope this helps Kevin
  11. Original standard bore BB Chevy LS-6 450hp/454 forged pistons, 11:1 Comp, GM #3693550 (6) + (2)TRW L2349. $50 for the set They are not mine, I found them on craigs list.. Kevin
  12. Awesome sounding, and the bay looks great too.. The one thing you have to hate about winter projects, waiting to show the returns until spring.. Kevin
  13. Is this a good time to bring up orphaned parts, and buildsheets?? Could we start a subsection to the restorers, so people can post build sheets, and possibly drive train parts to see if they can find the rightful home. Kevin
  14. Rodney, a good 4X4 shop resets perches all the time. They should be able to measure the angle of your drive shaft and calculate the perch settings on your rear end. They will also tell you if what you have will work, or will they need to use pieces from the old one. BTW new perches are fairly cheap too. I had perches done on my 74 IH Scout, and they turned out great. Kevin
