  1. This guy had a huge ad in the local trader papers every month. He does move a lot of muscle cars but he also gets a lot of complaints from what I hear. There is another one just like him just north of me that does the same thing but he has such a bad rep I'm told he is just barely getting by now. The third guy I know about seems to be straight up. He does sell finished cars but mainly sells bar finds and project cars. The only time I talked to him he seemed very honest about the car I was looking at. He even showed me before and after pics of the build. Now that is the type of guy I would deal with first if I was looking for a car.
  2. Sounds like fun, wish I could be there but other things came first.
  3. Just giving you a bump Dave to let the newbies look at your work. Btw, my wife let me hang the framed print of the 72 Monte I got from you on our bedroom wall
  4. If the shipper doesn't want to get involved it will between you and the delivering carrier to work out. Can you tell us who the carrier was? I have my guess in the back of my head.
  5. Good luck but in signing the bol "bill of lading" you sccepted it in good condition.Did the boxes show sighns of damage? If not it could have been packed that way The best route might be to go back to the shipper and let them pressure the shipping companies. I bet they didn't know their package would change hands three times. A good rule of thumb is to shake package,if it rattles check inside. If you can't shake it open it.
  6. Jacob Using sand builds up so much heat it will warp the panels like Tony and Jared said. If you have to use sand only use in small areas of rust. To strip the paint use soda which does not build heat like other blast media. You can get kits through Eastwood to convert your sand blaster to a soda blaster. That way just change the fittings for what type blasting you need to do. Also make sure you wear a good resperator and hood to keep the dust out of your lungs. Take it from me you do NOT want to do something to cause damage to your lungs!
  7. The script I have fits the last three holes in the picture. My friends son thinks he has some pics of the car in it's original gold paint before it was painted red and is going to dig through the looking for a pic of the sail panels. It was a shock to both of us to learn it might be a Custom. He was five or six when the car was painted so mostly all be remembers was the engine rumble
  8. I thought about that but I thought the custom badge went under the script instead of in front of it. And yes it is a 72. Thanks for the responses so far!
  9. I was removing the bondo that covered the holes for my sail panel script and found this extra hole Does anyone know what the extra hole is for? It is the same on both sides.
  10. Well after a year of searching I finally found a good machine shop just 45 minutes from me. One of my local mechanic/racer friends refered me to him and gave him high marks on workmanship. He will clean/check block, check line bore, bore and torque plate hone cylinders, and install freeze plugs and cam bearings for under $500.00. Main thing is I need to be patient because he works by himself and it takes him about three weeks to do everything. I talked to the guy on the phone a long time about what my plans are. The one thing i'm undecided on is final bore and stroke and displacement. I told him I was thinking 496 but didn't want to get the block too thin. We agreed I needed to bring him the block to be sonic checked and see what will work. I need some opinions on this so here is what I have: 1975 454 low deck truck block. Stock bore, stock rods and crank I'm looking for a cruiser street motor that will push the monte down the road pretty good. I'm looking at forged Skat or Eagle stroker kits. The tranny is a turbo 400 and will have a GV overdrive and 3:70 gears. At one time I was thinking about a procharger but decided to put that money else where in the car. I have not decided whether to use the iron heads or go alum yet. I was to use a Voodoo or Thumper roller cam but will decide those specs when I finalize the head decision. After struggling to pay off or down debt I should be able to turn my attention back to the Monte by the end of June and CAN NOT WAIT! lol Any opinions will help if you have one let me know
  11. Lol, I think he ordered five!
  12. I put an inline tester in two of the wires and had a good spark on both. i cracked the fuel line at the filter and there is plenty of fuel there but the filter had a bunch of junk in it. I changed it when I changed the fuel pump so it was clean on the first crank. It doesn't seem to be spraying fuel in the carb so we will try again when he gets a filter and I get time.
  13. I'm working on an 83 Grand Prix that has been sitting for over eight years. It has a Q-jet carb with wires running to the front of the carb in two locations. One on the passenger side top at the front and the other in the lower front on the drivers side. I am assuming these are part of the emissions system but do not know what they control. I got the car running yesterday and he even drove it around his property but it suddenly shut off like you turned the switch off. It has good spark but seem to not be getting fuel. It is getting fuel to the carb,I checked that first. I'm hoping somthing passed through the lines and plugged the carb filter but had to wait until he gets a filter. Any ideas on what to check for when I go back out there next time? I'm doing this as a favor to a friend of my wife so no money is involved. The guy is disabled and can't do his own work anymore so he really needed some help. The car was his dads and has a lot of sentemental value to him. The look on his face when it fired off and the smile when he drove it was worth more that any money.
  14. Joseph we are in the same boat,LOL
  15. You can use the plates from the blazer rear end but you need half inch spacers. The blazer my setup came from had the calipers mounted to the rear.
  16. I use an alum brightener found at comercial truck supply houses. You do need to dilute it with water so it doesn't turn your intake white. After that you can polish to your hearts content
  17. Stripped more off the frame getting it ready for the move upstairs.
  18. Size doesn't matter! Or so they say
  19. Thanks for the info. I've seen them used on some car show but didn't know anyone that owned one. I deal with 40 ft long school buses with huge wiring bundles running the lenth. I was looking for something to make my job easier.
  20. Has anyone used the Power Probe electrical testers? Anything good or bad to say about them. I'm looking to upgrade from my Fluke multimeter and their products look to fit the ticket.
  21. Cut out spot welds on window to trunk filler panel. Removed bondo from old repairs in top of quarter panel near trunk lid.did inventory on replacement panels needed.
  22. Very sad to hear this. My prayers go out to him and his family.
  23. I believe the later Asto vans had the same system because of space limitations under the hood.
