  1. Drew if you're still looking here's a new ad. http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/pts/5457214942.html
  2. My 72 has a problem with the shift cable. The 'Backdrive' does still work on these. Try changing gears from the column. If that works then you know without a doubt it's a broken cable.
  3. Thanks for the help, you guys are great. Learned a valuable lesson with this one. The way you take a part off isn't necessarily the way to put it back on if you are following a bad repair job. The PO must have forced the switch back on which is why I was confused. I had to rotate the switch 180 degrees to get it mounted correctly. It starts better than when I bought it now.
  4. Yes I am referring to the switch under the dash. I do have a tilt column and I made sure to get the switch that matched mine. It's that arm end that I'm having troube getting back in place. Even looking at the old one doesn't help, it seemed to have come out of the underside of the switch (no slot there). The 90 deg arm is pointing straight up from the column, is that the way it should be?
  5. I was told that the ignition switch on my 72 was probably the cause of it not starting. It appears they were right. I took out the old switch and found a replacement. Now this may seem like a silly question, but how do you get the rod that runs to the ignition reconnected to the switch? I have plugged the new switch into the harness and the car started. I really don't want to drive around starting my car with a screwdriver. Any help would be great, pictures would be better.
  6. My 72 actually has an external regulator. I found out when I took my alternator in to be rebuilt.
  7. Go to your local hardware store and purchase an epoxy called PC-7. With a file, sandpaper and a little time, you can have it looking new in no time. At a cost of less than $20, I thought it was worth it.
  8. Who would you suggest getting the new harness from? Mine has almost as many cut wires. Willie, good luck with the wiring and keep us posted. The is a very informative thread and love the pics.
  9. Austin do you have a 71 or 72? Cause that piece you're asking about is specific to the 72.
  10. Decided to do some updating. New fuel pump, water pump, thermostat, radiator hoses, fuel lines and temp sending unit. Also took the liberty to paint the fan and pulleys, as well as changed the valve cover gaskets. Taking to shop tomorrow to rebuild the front suspension, all new parts. Still can't decide between putting on headers or reconnecting the AC (one guess what the wife wants ). The coolest part is that I took the alternator in to be rebuilt by a local shop. They upgraded it to 180amp output.
  11. If you just want to replace the hubcaps I found these on Craigslist. http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/pts/2676112351.html I'm near Chicago if you want them checked out.
  12. Just finished restoring the rallys and had new set of tires put on. Couldn't wait to put them on, they look great . He was starting think he was a chevelle for a while.
