  1. My 70 has developed a tick. We eventually determined one of the #2 rocker arms barely moves so the cam must be worn. It does not make a noise when it is cold and the engine still has plenty of power. Once it is warmed up the ticking noise is quite loud but seems to go away at higher RPM. The engine has 132,000 miles and has never been out of the car or had any major work done. IMG_0055.MOV
  2. I still haven’t had a chance to wash it yet but it looks good from a distance.
  3. Today was a very nice day. I added almost 100 miles to the odometer. Here’s a video of it warming up in the morning. IMG_0031.MOV
  4. Wishing you a quick recovery Ron!
  5. Hmmm, I also find it odd that they have a metal grill. I would suspect that it is plastic like the other reproductions offered.
  6. The VIN is on the driver's side of the trans. The tag on the passenger side will indicate what engine it was mated to. Even if all the black printing is missing from the tag there will still be the stamp on the lower left. So, if the VIN matches the driver's side of the trans and the tag on the passenger side is stamped 70-CR then that also verifies it is an SS. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/decodingth400/
  7. The 48 A code is for Forest Green with white vinyl top. Code 780 is Green Prima Cloth Bench Seat The 06B code indicates it was built in the second week of June 1970.
  8. It looks like we will have roughly 10 Montes from BC, Alberta and Washington.
  9. The air cleaner cleaned up nicely. The decal isn’t too bad for its age.
  10. The green pins on the left indicate it is a pinned topic. Anything after that should have the topics with the most recent activity.
  11. Some of the forums have a few older topics pinned to the top if they were important.
  12. I’m a metal guy too!!
  13. Very nice! Ready for a cruise.
  14. Swapped the heater core today. I would normally be scraping off all the gunk from the firewall and heater box and painting the firewall but with this car I’m trying to preserve as much originality as I can.
  15. Welcome! This is a great group here. I say build it how you want. The car isn’t rare or of significant value so you won’t hurt it with those modifications. The 10 bolt rear is most likely a 2.73 ratio. If you find the resources section of our web site you will find several pages to help decode your car.
  16. I’m working in pulling the heater core and see a pen sticking out from the bottom of the dash. I pull it out and felt another one up in there as well. I decided to feel around for other stuff and felt what I thought was a little flash light but once I felt the rubber part I knew what it was. The cigarette lighter!! I was pretty excited when I found it.
  17. I’ve used those photos before. Great resource. This will be my 4th time swapping the heater core in a non-AC car.
  18. I received a box of parts today. I removed the original hood insulation as it was pretty dirty. Looks really good on the underside of the hood. I’ll re-use the original hood clips to put on the new insulation. This car being low miles deserved to have the MC emblem on the original spear so I had one of those shipped out too. I managed to get the grill and front bumper aligned a little better. Heater core swap is the plan in the next few weeks. Then I will take it in for a safety inspection and a wheel alignment.
  19. I agree with this. My red 71 SS454 I had was showing high temperatures but the factory gauge was simply reading incorrectly.
  20. But, I might try to get all three to the show on Saturday 😁
  21. Just to add, it appears that D99 was used for the trim on two-tones as well in Canada. It is not broken down by two-tone vs all one colour. Not sure if the US built two-tone cars used the D99 code or not. According to Vintage Vehicle Services only 284 with the D99 code in 1971 built in Canada for the US market. I don’t have 1970 numbers.
