  1. George at Vintage Vehicle Services Canada told me that some dealers figured out it was cheaper to order a car this way then install vinyl on the car at the dealer than it was to factory order the vinyl.
  2. Yes, it is still on the car. I was originally going to take it off as it looks ugly having the plug stick out between the grille and bumper. I will likely leave it on the car but coil it up in the engine bay to keep it original.
  3. That conversation did happen last night…
  4. There are no build sheets in Canadian cars. These line sheets are what they used instead.
  5. Not an error. From what I’ve read this was option was available in Canada. I know another member with a 71 that has the trim and is code 6767 for Classic Copper upper and lower.
  6. Now that I own this 1972 Monte Carlo in question, I've been on the hunt for the line sheet to try to shed light on this paint/trim option. I found it tonight! The colour code is 6363 for Mohave Gold upper and lower. The sheet also has the code D99 for the roof trim. I was very excited to find this information tonight because even I still had some doubt even though everything looked factory on this car. I assume this option is very rare and I hope the GM documents I have coming provide some info on the D99 code production.
  7. I found the line sheet in the upper portion of the rear seat. It took a bit of work to get it out to minimize the damage and got it out in one piece. 6363 Mohave Gold upper and lower AK1 deluxe seat belts w/shoulder front A02 tinted windshield B37 front and rear color key floor mats B93 door edge guards C50 rear defogger D33 remote left mirror D34 visor vanity mirror D99 two tone/vinyl roof trim GS1 2.73 rear axle K05 block heater M38 TH350 PU8 G78-15 white stripe tires U08 dual horns U63 push button radio U76 windshield antenna V30 bumper guards W84 additional fuel fir delivery ZP5 appearance group Z49 Canadian equipment The D99 is a code for the trim on a solid colour car. This was a Canadian plant only thing and I imagine it is very rare. I'm glad I was able to solve the mystery. I'm very excited about this and will certainly make this car harder for me to let go.
  8. Sunny here today but Cold!
  9. That looks great underneath!
  10. Looks like a great deal! As others have said, move quickly before someone else snaps it up. Check the tag on the side of the trans to see if it is a TH400 for a 454 car. See the trans decoding in the resources section of our site.
  11. I was playing in the engine bay tonight. The engine was built by McKinnon Industries Nov 24, 1971. It appears to have the original distributor cap and coil.
  12. It looks like we’ll have 6-8 Montes for this meet. Only a little over 6 weeks to go!
  13. Here’s the first time I had all three in 2013 for a 2-week period. I sold the gold 72 in 2013 and the red 71 SS in 2016 to the same guy. He still has both plus a 1970 4-speed. And here’s a photo from Sunday
  14. Those are a great find. This page will help you decode most of the protectoplate. There’s a lot of great info for your engine, trans and rear end. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/protectoplate/
  15. I had an opportunity to pull them all out for some photos.
  16. Already on the hunt for the Canadian line sheet. No luck but the seats look new!
  17. He doesn’t have the space, time or know-how to fix the car up. He didn’t want it to simply sit any longer.
  18. I do not plan to keep this car. The seller needed it gone quickly. I told him I can buy it but will clean it up and resell for a profit and he’s good with that. He actually wants first crack at buying it back after I clean it up. I’ll spend the summer cleaning, detailing and doing maintenance to get it drivable on a regular basis and looking its best.
  19. The clock works!!! I know most of you can appreciate that as they rarely work after 50 years. Heck the clock in my 70 didn't work in 1996 with 47,000 miles.
  20. April took this video of me bringing the 72 Monte home. I didn’t even ask her to do it. I think I’ll keep her. 😁 FullSizeRender.MOV
  21. Apparently when the car was being shipped to BC it would not start. that blue wire was a bypass to make it start. I will definitely be addressing that. Yes, 71 and 72 have round dome lights. I drove a short distance with three of the original tires and they held up over bumps, etc but I didn't go above 40 mph. No cracks. One original tire was damaged by being parked halfway on a 2x4 cracking the sidewall from sitting that way for so long. The seller replaced it with another tire he had so I could at least test drive it.
