  1. The upper center piece has a slight difference from the bottom one but you could make the bottom one work for the top.
  2. I just make sure there's a Monte nicer than mine parked at the hotel so mine will be left alone... All kidding aside, all the 20 years of I've attended FGMCC/hosted Meets there has not been one incident with a Monte. One year a member's trailer was broken into and a couple minor things were stolen but it is extremely uncommon. The risk of anything happening is so small it isn't worth worrying about in my opinion. Just as I do with any car I park I don't leave anything in my interior as I don't want to give anyone a reason to break in.
  3. Thanks for helping out a rookie. Great info as always. Does the shaft need any lubrication?
  4. Do I not bolt the converter to the engine first then mate them together?
  5. My rebuilt transmission is back and the engine will be a little while yet (350 engine and TH350 trans). Is there anything I need to know about putting the engine and trans together? Any specific lubrication? Recommend getting new bolts or just clean up the old ones? Any other tips? I am doing this out of the car and then putting them in the car as all one unit. Thanks 🙂
  6. Do you have a link to the car you are referring to?
  7. One interesting thing with these style of rims is there are slight differences depending on the vintage. The middle section of the early style rims sticks out further and is flush with the trim ring. The later ones are not out as far exposing a little bit of the inside edge of the trim ring. The hole for the valve stem is also oval on the early style vs round on the later ones. I’m glad I checked mine before I blasted and painted them because one of them was the later style while the other three were the early style. Luckily a club member not too far from me had a set with the opposite problem (1 early style and 3 later style). We swapped rims and both of us now have a matching set of 4 rims. Early style Later style
  8. I haven’t taken the rims in to the blaster yet. That might wait until spring as I have other projects on the go with both cars. I have some painting to do in the engine bay of the 70 Monte.

    Engine Code

CPD is a 1971 454 engine This link will be helpful in decoding the engine. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/decodingengine/
  10. Yeah, I think there will be 3 or 4 of us to put it back on.
  11. Overall it made it easier to see what we were doing. I marked the location of the bolts so it isn’t difficult to line up later.
  12. Agreed. That is not the factory stamping. It should be 145952 anyway. They missed a number in the restamping.
  13. That is definitely FL for Flint on the body tag. If the VIN has an L for Van Nuys then someone moved either the VIN tag or body tag. I would personally walk away. Do they have a build sheet? I also see 04B for 2nd week of April. April 16th engine build would be at least 3rd week of April I think.
  14. Does the VIN stamped on the engine block match the VIN tag?
  15. If you have a photo of the tag feel free to post it. Oh and, by the way, Welcome! 🙂
  16. Note that Van Nuys is sometimes shown as BL on the body tag so double check the F vs the B on the tag. The date on the engine lines up with the date on the body tag April 16th engine build, car was build 4th week of April. Do you still have the blue sticker on the end of the driver's door by the latch? If so there is a VIN on there and a build date. See if those match up
  17. Getting ready… engine and trans gets pulled out tomorrow.
  18. I managed to get them loose with open end wrenches. Those fittings were tight!
  19. Here’s a page that shows a lot of ads and other memorabilia that were produced to give you an idea of what to look for. https://www.firstgenmc.com/forums/index.php?/resources/memorabilia/
  20. I find them at swap meets but takes time searching through the collections people have. Sometimes you find good stuff and other times come up empty.
  21. Thanks for the help… I think…
  22. I’m working away in the shop and notice the 13/16 spark plug socket giving me a sinister look. 🤣
