Murphy
Noticed the driveshaft on my 71 SBC355 w/TH350, has a large round device at the front of the driveshift where the yolk attaches to the tranny. Is this a balancer or what is it? Is it needed due to the length of the shaft? Just curious....

Sam (Bones)
who knows, I know I don't have one now and my 4 speed didn't have one
montefrazer
Was this used due to the length of the shaft? No, same length shaft as a Chevelle. Just something GM thought would give their new luxury car a nicer ride. Same idea as the rubber frame mounts on the tranny cross member. footballubet
Mine had one too. With switching to the 700R4 the driveshaft I used did not have one. Can I tell the difference? Not really.
