footballubet
What is the best free internet security out there? My laptop came with a free time trail of Norton, but it's about to expire. I have used AVG and Windows One Care om my PC. What one will give me the best bang for my...'er..for free?

monte70car
I would stay away from Norton. I have Norton on one computer and when it's date comes to renew lets say it wont. My other computers run Mcafee which is cheaper then Norton and wont slow a system down. I'm sure Allan or Ian will chime in.
Ian
We used Norton Enterprise NAV for the last 9 years at work, and are changing to Sophos AV. I have never been a big fan of Symantec / Norton's home products. AVG comes highly rated, and McAfee does as well. My best advise it to not connect directly to the internet providers modem, make sure you have a firewall / router that protects you from outside attacks, and don't click / open links or attachments at random. Oh and Porn sites are not the ones that get you all messed up, they want you to come back
stangeba
My Comcast cable comes with free McAfee. I assume Comcast saves money on calls from customers with problems that are virus related not cable related. I get updates from McAfee about 3 or 4 times a week and the once weekly total scan slows down the computer. I know I could stop the scan but I don't. Perhaps other cable companies give away free anti virus software too? Bruce
