Leghome
Is it normal for oil to run out the end of the crankshaft when I remove the harmonic balancer bolt. I've had an oil leak on the front of my 350 so while I am working on replacing the heads thought I would do some clean up and when I took out the balancer bolt oil poured out of the hole
jft69z
I put a little dab of RTV at the keyway when putting the balancer back on. Oil could ride thru that slot and make its way out the front. Much the same when installing a new yoke on a pinion gear at the rear differential. They say to put a bit of RTV there also, to stop the lube from migrating thru the splines.
stangeba
My 350 4bbl had a leak at the seal. The dampener had a groove worn into it. I got a sleeve, put the dampener in the freezer and the sleeve in the oven and the sleeve slid right on. new seal, problem solved. I had a similar problem with my right rear axle. I got an offset seal to fix it.

On the axle I had to do the same on one of my cars several years ago
