Changed my camshaft/ Opinions

One other thing, what is the configuration of your air cleaner? Does it just sit on top of the carb? I'm not sure how to describe this but some have a recessed base, in other words the assembly sort of drops down and surrounds the carb instead of sitting on top. If you don't have one this might give you some more clearance, you would have to check it out. Using that with a 2" filter might help. FWIW....David grin

Ian, thanks for the height info...I'm thinking of going from the GM aluminum to a Performer RPM or same in air gap for Patricia's Monte. I was worried about clearance but I think I'll be okay .... shifter

I just went through this change, and although the Edelbrock measurements tell you the RPM is a little taller than the standard performer, I could not detect a difference. I had just made myself a new hard-tube fuel line to work with the performer, and surprisingly it fit beautiful with the RPM also. So as near as I could tell the distance from the fuel pump to the carb fuel inlet is the same for both intakes.

thank you sir......first did you notice much with the change, performancewise?? I'm still debating whether to do it or not, return on investment....Second, how's things in Sactown? Before I got transferred back down here a few years back I lived in Elk Grove for a while.... David

I think I'm going to be good. I just ordered this at the local advance auto. THis way I can drive the car there, place it on and try to shut the hood. If it closes, I'll buy it, if not, I won't be stuck with it.

With this be as recessed as it is, I think I may be okay. I can use my 14" filter again. yeah!!!

I know this isn't very high tech Mariano but here's a simple test. Take a foam coffee cup with you, place it on top of the air cleaner and GENTLY close the hood watching it all the way. If you don't run out of cup when it smashes you're probably good.......also make sure the air cleaner stud is at the bare minimum.....

I will try that out. I really like that it drops 2.25 inches. My only other concernt is will it fit the holley carb good. I suppose it should being these things are kinda universal. I will know for sure this thursday or friday at the latest.

If you feel it's important to actually know what your performance is have your car chassis dyno'd. Everything else is a guess. As far as compression goes you will have to test it yourself as no two engines are exactly alike. Maybe one day folks will start realizing this. Past experience with this and that is great and can be used as a guidw, but real real world numbers with each individual application tell the truth.

I think I'm going to be good. The proform came today. I put it on and using a 3" filter it gave me atleast another inch or so clearance. So knowing the air-gap is a 1/2 inch taller. I should be good, even using the spacer for the meth injection too. I have a 2" filter if it gets a little to close for comfort. I 'll report back when I have it all on the car, should be here tomm.

okay new intake is on baby!!!!. set the timing where I had it before and no pinging, so tomm I may up it a little and see where I'm at from there. So far running 14degrees base timing she pulls pretty good, I think theres more in her. The air filter fits as well. I used the proform with a 3" filter and she's good.
