orbit
Can someone tell me what bolt holes in the frame for a M21 cross member. Thanks Joe Bobowski
MC1of80
I know this is very vague but the same as a th350. As you know there are quite a few holes for the cross member on both sides of the frame rails.with the trans in place and the cross member in place, just line up all the holes. I can give you an exact number of holes back when I get to my "parts car" but that will not be till tomorrow or Thursday. Someone may have told you by then. I will look though. Good luck. orbit
I don't have the trans yet so when you get to your car if you could shoot me some info that would be great. I just had the frame painted so I would like to install the bolts once and in the proper hole
MC1of80
Hi orbit. I had my brother run out, the cars are at this house. When using the cross member with the " cushions or pads" the bolt holes are the very first hole and 4th hole from the front of the frame. Hope this helps. John S
I have 1970 monte with 4 speed the crossmember uses the 2nd and 3rd holes from the front. John S
MC1of80
John, does your car have the "cushion" style cross member or one without cushions. I believe yours is without. That being said both of us are correct depending which style cross member is being used. Now I'm curious if 4speed cars used the cushion less cross member. I know my 70 SS had originally a cushion style that I changed to the "solid" style like yours. Thanks for the info.

Back in 1980 I had my first monte a 1970 402 4spd and that car had the cross member without the cushions. I thought the cushion style was for the 400 automatic, but I am not positive. MC1of80
I would think the 4speed cars did not have the cushion cross member like you suggest but Orbit says his has the cushions. When I get a chance I'm going to go to my 71 402 4speed car and see which style it has. I would say no cushion. Lol anyone else with a factory 4speed know?? DaveC
My 70 4 speed does not have cushions either.
John S
Check the crossmember out crossmembers can be changed. The original four-speed crossmember Opposite the trans mount should have a bracket for the original Muncie shifter.
orbit
My car use to be a turbo 400 but now a 4 speed so probably why the cushions. I am going with a Hurst shifter with a Muncie stick so not concerned about the Muncie shift bracing bolting up to my crossmember
