  1. Bought one of these over at Harbor Freight for 20.00. Worked like a charm.
  2. Any one have any tool suggestions on separating ball joints? I'm trying to remove some coil springs and have bent through two of those pickle fork tools. (Cheap China metal). There's gotta be something better than that out there....
  3. Thanks for the data...I just picked up some Moog 6332 and I'm gonna see how she sits with those. Spring # Inside Dia Bar Dia Install Height Load rate (lbs) Spring Rate (Lbs/in.) Free Height Ends Type 6332 3.69 0.63 12.5 1296 271 17.28 ST 5536 3.63 0.69 11 1984.5 487 15.06 ST With the difference in spring rates, I would think mine should drop with these installed...
  4. I bought the Hotchkis 2" drop springs and my front end sits up higher than stock for whatever reason...I'm currently in the process of yanking them out and trying something else that would give the front end a stance similar to MGD72Monte's. Or dare I cut these??? I'm running an aluminum intake and water pump, but man would that make THAT much of a difference?
  5. Ben, what rear end ratio are you running? I've got a 2004r from a Monte SS sitting my garage that I've been waiting to rebuild, but I have my doubts it would work well with my 2:73 rear end.
  6. Your car is the exact same car mine was built as in 1972. Mine was tan when I bought it but the original color was the same as yours.
  7. I assume these are Fram in line fuel filters are intended for automotive use....anyone here used them or have thoughts/opinions of them?
  8. I always heard that the long hood and short deck was considered "exotic" and "European" thats why GM went with that style...Also that the F.G. Monte made a good NASCAR racer because of its better center of gravity due to the engine sitting back a bit further than the Chevelle. Who knows, it's all just stuff I've read though...

    Re; 72 SS

Dagnabbit! My 72 had a tan vinyl roof originally before I took it off during the restoration...looks like there are only 11 left now. Tell the guy to add an extra 5-8 grand to his asking price.
  10. Sad, sad news. My condolences to his family.
  11. Wow, great pics and restoration! Like looking at a time capsule...

    Mugs

This me just outside of the Georgia Dome before an Atlanta Falcons game last fall. My Wife and I at the Martinsville Speedway.
  13. Fantastic looking restoration!
  14. Picked up the 700R4 tonight, and its off to the shop for a rebuild tomorrow. I apprieciate all the info and advice...
  15. Great info guys. Thanks a lot. Just talked to the shop that rebuilt my 350 turbo about 8 years ago and they said they could do the entire conversion for about 1000-1100 dollars. Music to my ears after listening to this thing roar at 70mph yesterday on I-85.
  16. Oh yeah, the fella states that this 700r4 came out of an 85 Z28, would the year matter at all? 100 Bucks is what he's asking-sound fair?
  17. Thanks for the advice/info. Defineatly the low RPM's on the highway is waht I'm aiming for...Mines no racer, just a cruiser.
  18. Just took the Monte for a little highway trip and just can't take the TH350 2:73 combo anymore so I'm in the market for a 700R4 and will be switching to a 3:55 rear gear. Now I'm searching Craigslist around my area and have found several pretty cheap. I'm going to have which ever one I buy rebuilt, but I need to know what to look out for in terms of year-Will any year work for my '72? Also, will the drive shaft need to be shortened?
  19. Gotta love Charlotte drivers...I was so glad to move out of that town years ago.
  20. Man, I hate I missed the Eastern Meet....The wife took ill for a week and I didn't want to leave her at home feeling that way. Great pictures!
  21. I'd go with the member made ones as it seems the reviews on them are top notch. When I was restoring mine I bought the patch panels and they were such a joke we didn't even use them. Ended up fabricating our own which took a heck of a long time to get straight and the correct curves creased in them...Came out good, but boy were worked on those suckers for a while.
  22. Sounds like maybe the 700r4 is the way to go here...I've done some preliminary searches on Craigslist in my area and found that you can pick one up fairly cheap...anything I should be looking for such as certain years or will pretty much any year 700r4 work, and how about stall converters and such?
  23. Thanks for the info. To clarify, I want lower RPMs at a highway speeds at 70 mph and up I don't have much of a lead foot so launching at stop lights is not really a priority for me.
