  1. nope sure dont...thats dead weight...lol
  2. to shift the body over if needed..get a buddy and an engine hoist....thats what i did..but honesly the body will drop right back in place...its the front fenders and radiator support that you have to worry about lineing back up right. if you look at my signature pic....this right after i dropped the body back on the frame..the body drops back in place once you get two opposite bolts started (thats the hard part) its a pretty straight forward job but find at least one buddy to help you
  3. but be aware that when doin that..the car will be able to start in any gear..just be aware!
  4. measure if you can before you take it apart but like said before..when i put the body back on the frame..it pretty much drops into the right position.
  5. i know the shifter is off center..thats cuz i had originally planned to put the e brake there but then i found this http://www.speedwaymotors.com/E-Stopp-Electric-Emergency-Brake-Kit,65217.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjwz6KtBRDwgq-LsKjMk9kBEiQAuaxWUjH7j1N0GP5oePJ-Zq-HzUbUcBlepCtSBukUi6FLqs0aAmGP8P8HAQ and that gives me more room and options and its just cool.
  6. got some more work done..frame is pretty much finished
  7. yeah im tryinng to copy the lines of the original console just bigger to accomodate my shifter and some cup holders and maybe move the parking brake to the center also..we will see how good my fab skills are..wioll keep ya posted fellas
  8. so i couldnt find an off the shelf center console to suit my taste in where im goin with the interior so i decided to build one my self..out of metal since i have some 20 guage sheet metal jus laying around begging to be welded together into something useful.....so here goes..
  9. 600 hp should be easy to get with a NA bbc...you can twin turbo that bbc and be around 700hp easy...thats what I would do
  10. seems like its can be done...also sounds like the start of a snow ball!!!
  11. bad [censored] build you have goin there sir with that huge turbo..thats gonna be one bad [censored] street car.....
  12. thats not a rough start...good luck with your build..have fun and get her done
  13. that snow ball jus keeps rolling...jus take the body off while the motor is out so you can change the body bushings to some poly ones..then while the body is off u can fix all the rust and paint the whole frame with por-15..and while your at it you might as well re do the rear suspension and rebuild the rear end while its out...might as well let the snow ball roll... this is where i started..
  14. thanks guys.....this group is so cool..and I have learned so much since Ive had this car...cant wait to put her back on the road
  15. so im finally seeing the end of my restoration...got her almost back together......mechanically..the suspension has been totally replaced with all new pieces from Moog,Helwig,UMI...all new poly body bushings..the brake system is totally redone with new stainless steel lines front to back..new master cylinder and booster...wilwood 2 piston calipers up front and a new rear disk set up with 4 piston calipers out back...the rear suspension got new upper and lower tubular control arms and the braces to go with em.....the rear end was rebuilt with an eaton tru trac with 3:42 gears and 33 spline axles...kept the c clips tho! got all the fluids filled and everything is all greased up..she starts right up and sounds great..cant wait to feel the gears and new suspension working. all thats left to be done to get her back on the road is to install the windows..get a wheel alignment. i plan on taking the car to a local resto shop where i have a good relationship with and have them do the wheel alighment and go over everything and make sure everything is right..i see the light at the end of the frame off tunnel and it looks like I will be driving my Monte this year by my birthday...thank you to all the guys here on this site who helped me with advice and answerd my questions...you guys rock...now to start saving for the interior work then my big block rebuild...
  16. 3:42 would be cool also......wish i had a fourth gear
  17. jus rebuild the front suspension..PST sells a kit with all you need for a stock rebuild. check to see if the lower control arm bushings are round or oval then order the kit..gives you everything you need except a new stering box. thats what i did. i went with poly bushing instead of rubber but thats up to you. goo dluck and i have pics if you need em
  18. she all finished and ready to fill with gear oil
  19. my 72 350 4 barrel car came with a 12 bolt. 2:73 open diff
  20. yeah it came with the heads and the rest of the valve train minus the cam but the guy I got the motor from also gave me a what he said was a billet cam for a 502. not sure bout that cuz he had no info on it.! im thinking bout going roller cam...want to get the numbers off the heads so I can know what they are..see if its worth putting money into them or jus getting a better set...maybe some aluminum ones to save a bit of weight. those roller cams are pricey but easier to break in..we will see. gotta get the car back on the road with the small block in it now...this wont be till another year or so down the road...im thinkin of putting a 5 speed behind it..that will be fun
  21. i got this .030 over rebuilt 454 for $400 with no cam..now i can plan this build for the 2nd stage of my monte build.
  22. looks just like my radiator. i have a champion aluminum radiator and it sits close to the battery. but i think if your battery tray is held in place correctly ands your battery is held down the correct way it should be fine...for me I had to cut a piece out the battery tray because it was rubbing the radiator and thats not good but it was an easy fix
