  1. I only used Walmart $0.96 spray paint. The only thing not 96 cent was the semi-flat on the fireall which I used Krylon, the engine paint(high temp), and exhaust manifold paint(high-temp). No paint guns were used here... I'm sure you can get a better job using a paint gun. But now my engine compartment detail job is 2 years old and that cheapo paint has held up very very well.
  2. I'm going to run a 3500 stall with a 4:11 gear, but want be doing much street or strip. I would not recommend over a 2500-3000 stall for the street and keep the 3:31 gears or you'll be riding around about 45 mph all the time... I will be doing this. Just depends on what you want. Its hard to make a street/strip car.
  3. Jared's riceburner is taking donations also. Well let me start from the beginning... I'm going to build me a big block on a 2500-3000 budget. I'm going to put 1st gen monte back to the bigtime... Fast Forward about 1 or 2 later. I now have my dream engine...one that retails for around $12,500. ahhhh. what happened to that 3000? (Those turbos will require strenthening of the bottom end...) Oh by the way. That rearend retails for another $3500...that will be here most likely spring of next year. Quickly I found out HP is expensive...that Pro-Charger I'm going to buy one these days. But that'll be another 1-3 years. Then I can have my 1000 HP instead of 600. Did I mentiong that system would be another $3000 +. So my concluding statement is I'm going to have one of the fastest cars in anderson county that can be drove on the street. My back pocket is hurting greatly. Maybe me and you can race one of these days Tom? By the way Tom. How much HP do you have now? and what gear?
  4. It was. It was the beginning.
  5. I believe that cannister is the vent for the gas tank. You could do away with those vent lines totally like I am doing, I bought a 70 Gas Tank and will use a vented gas cap. This will do away the need for the lines or the cannister. hope this helps.
  6. I'll be putting 2 of them on my car I'm building before I go drag racing. One in the front and one in the back. Jared
  7. Cool idea. Didn't even think of that. I guest add that to list of my build also. Nice looking too.
  8. I'm going with a 4:10 Gear in my rearend. No overdrive/350 Turbo Tranny, racing built. I will not get over 8 hwy miles a gallon with this car and I don't care really, heck gas is so high I won't be able to drive it much anyway. Maybe gas will come back down to 2-3 bucks a gallon one day. I'd be thrilled to see 93 back to $2.50. Street gear, a 3:31 is good. Sounds like your plan is similar to mine, drive it ONLY locally, and on pretty days, every once in a while sucking that 93 Octane gas at 3.75 a gallon(headed there). So I say go for a 4:10. Might as well do the Disk Brake Conversion also!
  9. Very nice. Love the sound. I bet it will go fast also.
  10. My head is now huge. Glad I could help you out there Kevin.
  11. Kevin, Need help on Saturday? Or any parts? Let me know. I'll be glad to help.
  12. Nate, can you PM me or post what all you done to lighten it up that much. That is very light for a fgmc.
  13. I've seen those moldings on 70-72, but I believe only came standard on the Customs of 1972 Hard to find molding, I would recommend picking it up. I like that wide molding.
  14. monte kid, Nothing but a V8 needs to be in a Muscle Car. The Small Block chevy is the most economical engine to use. You can have good power, for good cost. It ain't a Muscle Car if it ain't gotta V8, just my opinion. Big Blocks are great too, but you'll sink thousands in one.
  15. Ed, any thoughts of getting another Monte? Still have the rest of those NOS parts? Jared
  16. I think it will be worth the drive to SC... Cook's Racing Transmissions 864-463-4769 LMAO!!! $1000-1100 range. Ouch is all I can say. The other day I took my core Turbo 350 up to Cooks' and it was $235. Fully built for racing, extra clutches, all the tough stuff. He supplies trannys withing a 200-300 mile radius. His stuff is at all dragstrips around here. You can think I'm full of crap for saying it was only $235, but I am telling you the truth. Atleast that is what it cost me. The highest price I've heard is $350.

Nice. What is the HP on that engine? Car is very nice. I like.
  18. Never heard of that marking. That sounds interesting. Oh I didn't know you could get Monte Carlo 1/4 windows new, that is good to know. Now I don't feel guilty of letting several sets go to the crusher in corpses left of cars I stripped.
  19. A Monte is better. Great shot, I'll be glad when Drag Season comes back around. That'll be a few months around here. Ware Shoals usually starts back in late Feb or early march. Lets hope.
  20. I didn't say a 350 was stronger...I said a 400 was stronger and a 350 will need to be built up strong to handle the power. But in the long run, a 400 Turbo built is still stronger, it has to be, its bigger, and heavier, and made to handle more power. A 350 is just lighter and better for the dragstrip. Sorry I confused you. If you go back and re read my 1st post you will see I said "a 350 is not as durable and it will need to be built up to handle the power".
  21. When you have that kind of power like that or what I'm going to have, they probably ain't much difference... But when you car about the 0.100 or 0.010 or even 0.001 of a second at the strip, then it matters.
  22. Go with a TH350, the Turbo 400 pulls more HP than a 350, of course a 350 is not as durable. It will need to be built to withstand the HP, I will be bolting a 350 behind a 600 HP 462 BB, but it will be a racing transmission.
  23. Truly outstanding. Glad to see another Monte heading down this road of good things.
  24. I don't remember him, but have heard nothing but good things... Speaking of the top posters, What happend to Pete?? He was #1, and I hadn't seen him here in a long time.
  25. Thanks Sam I thought so, mine is limited slip. And with todays gas prices...higher gear the better.
