  1. Yes that’s who I paid 1400.00. They called it show chrome, with extra copper. Probably should take to them to see what a driver quality rechrome would be. But will probably go with a CHL repo from Leo if he finds one that the chrome looks nice.
  2. Yes Rob, that’s who rechromed my SS bumpers.they did a great job on those.
  3. It’s a hard call. On one hand it’s a numbers matching car with lots of options but requires more than average rust repair to rebuild.
  4. I agree, I had my 71 SS bumpers rechromed but hate to spend 1400.00 for rechroming on a driver. My SS bumpers were in good shape and rust free, plus didn’t want to drill 7 holes in rear bumper for pad. This driver front bumper was hit and straightened in 77 , and is a mess. The rear bumper could be rechromed but would rather spend less for a repo, plus it takes months for rechroming.
  5. Thanks Aaron for the info, I will check that out.
  6. I need to replace the bumpers on my 71 Monty. I went with AMD bumper sold by Tamraz for the front because it already has the holes for the bumper guards in it and I have heard good things about it from forum members such as Jared. I wanted to get some input from other members as what is the best fit and finish for the rear. I also have bumper guards on the rear but I haven’t seen any with the holes already drilled. I see AMD makes one for the rear as well along with gold star. Jared Had some fitment issues with the rear as the bumper corner on the side wouldn’t fit straight as he would’ve liked. Any idea’s
  7. Yes I would be interested in getting a picture to confirm this is the color I need as it seems that that color cost twice as much as black or white. 423-737-4528 thanks Willie
  8. I recently purchased a 71 Monte Carlo that’s burnt orange with saddle interior and originally had a dark brown vinyl roof. The previous owner replace the roof with a black roof, and I wanted to put it back to the original dark brown roof. Since most places only carry black and white I asked for a sample from SMS in Oregon. The sample they sent me is a very very dark brown color. I was wondering if anyone here has any pictures of the original color and can tell me if that is the right color sample they sent.
  9. Believe me Dennis it took a while with SMS to get what I needed. They would send samples and then I would call them and they would lose their records of what they sent me so then I had to send them what they sent me back to them to verify. It took about two months to finally get it nailed down.I will post progress as I start assembling the chassis now that I have gotten my bolts back. Carlisle next year will be a goal but don’t know if it will come true,we will see.
  10. Well after 16 months I finally have a complete new interior to install, I ordered it April 2 2020. The door panels and headliner came pretty quick, but it took three or four rear deck shelves before I got one that wasn’t either folded in half or incorrect. The headliner turned out to be too dark of green I think it’s probably the correct green for a 72 not a 71. I then got my rear seat covers which were perfect but they didn’t have material to do the front. So I then had to find the correct color headliner material and correct green cloth,Which I did find at SMS in Oregon. The headliner material was $79 a yard and the seat cloth material was $150 a yard, but Legendary did reimburse me for most of it. While it took a lot longer than I anticipated I am thankful to Rob at Legendary who work with me to get the end result we both wanted. It’s definitely a lot harder to restore a cloth interior MonteCarlo back to original than a Chevelle which were 95% vinyl and probably have it in stock on the shelf ready to ship.I am now ready to start assembly of the chassis and install the drivetrain.
  11. I just learned of this today while visiting the shop where my engine was rebuilt, which is just down the street from Jim’s tax service. My thoughts and prayers to his family of this sad news.
  12. Here is another Baltimore cowl tag with a B. It is a 350 2 barrel with 17,000 miles. 71s were just built out of 4 plants, it makes sense that if all Canadian build cars have Z 20 on SS tags and if it’s true that all Kansas SS cars have an L on them, it makes sense that Baltimore cars could have BF to signify an SS. Makes me wonder if there’s any data like this on Van Nuys built 71 SS.
  13. This first trim tag is a 71SS owned by Leo which was was built in Baltimore and has the same date code as mine and has a vin within 500 of mine. The second Kansas City Cowl tag is also Leo’s and is an SS and he told me the L on the tag means it is an SS. So maybe it’s possible the BF on Baltimore cars means it’s an SS like the L on Kansas City cars?
  14. Yes it is a SS. although the trim tag says it was built the third week of september, due to the strike it didnt get produced till december as the blue door decal says. I believe your barnfind cowl tag says it was built 09B, so it got built before the strike. Your blue door decal probably says it was built september of 70.
  15. My 71 built in Baltimore also has BF on the trim tag.
  16. 1100843 would be correct if you don’t have the K85 option. I believe the fan and pulley should both be silver zinc.
  17. They sell the tag at in-line tube.com, I don’t know how to get the info stamped into it though maybe someone else knows.
  18. The strike started at midnight on September 14, 1970 and lasted for 67 days. Your car was built just before the strike started and my car was scheduled to be built the third week of September but due to the strike didn’t get built till December I believe the first or second week of December it was built according to the Vin number. My engine assembly date is September 3, 1970 and most of the components are dated August September. The latest date I have found is the windshield which is October 1970. A couple of things that I have found different on my car from later 71 is the rear bottom of the bench seat has carpet in the kick area instead of vinyl and the rear speaker grills are rectangular like 70s instead of oval like 71 and 72. I would imagine your bench seat also has carpet and if you have speakers in the rear package tray are also rectangular?
  19. Dennis these are the only photos that I could find. I don’t see that connector by the master cylinder in any of my pictures, but I will check the harness when I get home. I won’t be back till August 10 though. I have a question for MC one of 80, my Cowl tag says the assembly date is the third week of September however there was a strike September 14 for 67 days so my door decal says it was built December 1970 and my Vin number is 118567.Can you tell me what date is on your Cowl tag and do you have the blue decal on your door jam with the assembly month?
  20. Dennis,Right now my firewall looks like this so I will see if I have some pictures that shows that area for that connector. I noticed barn find 402 right after I sent my post so 71s must’ve had the threaded stud originally. My car was assembled in December 70 at the Baltimore plant. Is your 402 barn find car that was built September 1970 also a Baltimore car?
  21. I looked at my temperature sending unit on the passenger head and it does have the two prongs like in the pictures here. But as I say there weren’t any wires connected to it so may have been cut from my harness, I’ll have to look at it closer. One thing I was wondering I know on the 70s they originally on the driver side head the sending unit for gauges had a threaded stud and then the wire had an eyelet which was held On with a nut. But later parts sending units had a mushroom head and you had to add a different connector to the wire. I’m wondering if 71 or 72 also had a threaded stud originally or did at some point they go to the mushroom head connector from the factory.
  22. I have a 71 SS with factory gauges and my driver side head has the single terminal with a green wire going to it. I don’t have any wires on the driver side head, and when I removed the wire harness didn’t find any wires that would go to the passenger side. I have had 2-70 SS Chevelle‘s with gauges and they both had the same sending unit on the driver side with one terminal and a green wire going to it, the passenger head had a 2 terminal connection on both cars so I was wondering why I didn’t have any wires going to the passenger head on my 71 SS. I’m not as familiar with 71s as I am 70s so I’m still learning.
