  5. A year ago Sept 1st I had knee surgery. The week before I replaced the starter in my 71. When I tested my work there was a knocking noise, checked my work, saw nothing wrong and checked everything I could think of. Well my knee, winter and a lack of expertise and interest took control, I covered her up and focused on my recovery. Since I’m working off jack stands I couldn’t get under the car again until earlier this summer then 90*F days became the norm. Well last Friday 9-2-22 I rechecked everything I could think of, a friend suggested it could be a loose torque converter, which it was, just a 1/8 pull on each of the three bolts solved the noise. Took the car for a drive and all was back to normal! Filled up the gas tank, washed the dust off her and ended up at Chesapeake Beach where the first Friday of the month classic car show was happening. I know she’s a 20 footer but the number of people who stopped and checked her out was a boost to my enthusiasm. SHE GETS DONE THIS WINTER. So it’s had been a rough year; I lost my baby sister, got covid, recovery from a total knee replacement, went on vacation and my brother tested positive for covid and we had to leave him in Spain until he was negative, all that worrying, was it a motor, maybe a trans, torque converter or something else more expensive. Something as simple as people admiring a 71 Monte Carlo reminded me that God has never tested me beyond my ability to endure.
  6. sun got low in the sky, temperatures got to the mid 80’s, my butt got outside and the lock got in and it works thanks guys
  7. I had a sticking trunk lock, bought new one, replaced it, gasket and retainer and the lock failed again. The original lock tailshaft has an offset(upper assembly in picture), the new one is straight, anyone know which one is correct? I also bought a new latch but the old one seems fine with the cylinder removed and I use a screwdriver to actuate it, latch alignment is correct to striker. john
  8. Thanks for reply, 8” ralley wheels with 4” back spacing AZ’s(?) or AS’s I remember the 4” is correct. john
  9. Looks good, I’m planning on ordering those same tires today. My local tire dealer is willing to let me try these in 275’s on the back, no charge if they don’t work, what do you think clearance will be like?
  10. thanks guys, I’ll post some pictures when I’m done
  11. I’m about to install my third set of plug wires in less than a year. The first set were accel super stock 8mm, one got header hurt and I needed to up grade when I went to a new ignition system, Holley suggested 8.5mm super conductors. I ordered the type that you can bend the boot at the plug thinking it would help header clearance, broke one with a bigger bend than it liked, had to put a 90* boot on two others and cut 5&7 a little too short, so now I’m going to buy a second set hoping to get it right. Oh I long for the days when you had one choice, they were always too long and screwed your radio but that was it.🦕(that’s me a dinosaur I guess) this perfection thing is getting to be a pain in my, let’s just say wallet LOL Any suggestion on where to run the wires? Behind the valve covers, over the valve covers, under the headers... Thanks for your input john
  12. when I installed this base and a 3” filter I took a piece of modeling clay rolled it into a cylinder and stuck it on the top of the air cleaner and closed the hood slowly. Upon opening the hood I measured the clay to see its height (it had been compressed by the hood when closed) and had over 3” of clearance, hope this helps
  13. round opens trunk passenger door and glove box, Rob Peters says square = doors so maybe some changes ignition lock or....
  14. I have 3 keys, 2 square 1 round, one of the square has notches cut in it and only works the drivers door, 2nd square ignition, round everything else, I think it is stock?
  15. Very cool set up, thanks for the info john
  16. Good morning all, I hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving. Im considering converting my heater hose over to AN braided hose. The heater core connections puzzle me, how would I terminate AN to the barb style that is stock? john
  17. great look, and look comfortable as well. I have been looking for seats that incorporate the lap and shoulder belt, I would be interested in what mods the tracks require to mount them
  18. here’s my 2 cents worth, I’m in the middle of this right now, 505hp 383 stroker 2004r from a 87 gn. grenaded it once all ready, TV adjustment issue(experience is the only teacher that gives you the test before the lesson), trying to get the governors straight now, if you go 2004r look for a 2nd gen monte trans the shift points are better but you do lose a little 1st gear ratio, my trans builder thinks I would have been better off starting with a 700r4 (200 parts are getting hard to find and expensive) while 700’s have a great deal of after market support. I didn’t go 4l**e due to the computer control, tunnel mods, drive shaft adjustments required, trying to keep somewhat old school
  19. this may be too simplistic a solution but if you have the rotors turned make sure they put a non-directional finish on the rotors, this is just a fancy way of saying while still turning on the lathe ruff them up with a disk sander, and season the pads per manufacturer’s instruction, some require heat cycling others insist you break them in slowly
  20. you might want yo search the forums I have found one where members list their combinations
  21. Stan sure has a near perfect car, I didn’t notice a single fault, mine may never be this clean but it has given me new understanding of what is possible.
  22. Once the guy got the blender for the fusion generator running I just had to post the picture, lol not sure what I did but this is one beautiful national champion MC at Carlisle, only one I saw. It drew a great deal of attention
