  1. Thanks Dan and Willie. She is coming along. Stopped by last weekend to check on progress, they were refitting the 1/4's in prep for finally welding into place. I feel this is a major milestone! Yeah!! Didnt take in pics because I being talked into another purchase, but declined. It was a 67 Camaro convertible. Restored 20 years ago and barely driven since. 327/AT. SS emblems but couldn't verify if it was a real SS. Real nice looking car, maroon with white interior and top. I'm itching to get another old car that runs and drives now, because I feel the Monte is going to take at least another year to get finished. I'm actually looking for a Buick GS. I've always loved Buicks since I was a kid, and had quite a few back in the day. John
  2. Im using 1 AMD and 1 NOS 1/4 panel on my body job, and my bodyman was very impressed with the fit of the AMD compared to the NOS.
  3. Another update from the body shop. Everything is welded up in the trunk and is epoxy coated. He is going to spray underneath the trunk with epoxy, then coat it with black paint. Next, fuel tank will be installed so they can take it to the mechanical shop to install the Vintage Air kit and serpentine belt set up. Also going to have them install aluminum radiator and electric fan, and replace brake booster and master cylinder, since the fenders and hood are removed. Slowly making progress. Pics to follow.
  4. I am going through the same thing. Thought I could get away with just repairing the metal underneath the vinyl top, snowballed into a complete body restoration. Lots of pictures under my rebuild thread. Good luck, you have a beautiful Monte!
  5. The door hinges for the Monte Carlo were sand blasted (not sure if that is the correct term), then new door checks were installed (shiny pin with the wheel on it). They also installed new hinge pins. Probably would have been cheaper to get replacement hinges, but I wanted to stay with the GM produced product instead of some aftermarket piece. In the end, they will be painted black along with the rest of the car.
  6. Here is what I sold, in case anyone is interested. Its a 1956 Pontiac Star Chief. My father bought it in 2012. In 2014 I tore it down to rebuild the suspension, brakes and steering. Due to life happening, and my father passing away, it never got finished. With moving to Florida, it just became a burden and ended up selling to someone who is really excited to finish it. I'm happy it's finally getting done, even if it wasn't me to do it. Pics to follow
  7. Stopped by the shop last week when I was in town to sell my Pontiac. The package tray and side support pieces were being installed. It's coming together. Pics to follow. John
  8. Looks to be a great build. Keep the pics coming. John
  9. I collect these, probably have over 500 of them. When I leave this earth, I bet they will all go in the trash. John
  10. Since my screen name has "clone" in it, I hope I don't any backlash. I feel that restoration is just what it means... restored to the way the factory built it. I would have a hard time owning a restored car, because I like to drive mine (when it gets finished) and make changes to make it more comfortable for me. I chose "clone" in my screen name because when she is finished, it will look like a modified Monte Carlo SS, but there is no way that I would ever represent my car as an actual SS. Unfortunately, misrepresentation happens more often when people try to make big money on their cars. When "big money" enters the hobby, it drives the prices up for everyone and brings all the unscrupulous people out of the woodwork. John
  11. I can't wait for it to be finished, but I know this type of work takes time
  12. Thanks to all that have served to help keep this country safe and free.
  13. I haven't spoke to Leo, but none were listed on his website. I'll make sure to tell my body guy not to throw them out. Might have to reuse what I have.
  14. Removed the front fenders and guess what.....more rust. Ordered replacement panels and work will continue. Trunk weatherstripping channel is repaired, and new door checks are installed in the door hinges. Progress is being made. Pics to follow.
