  1. Sure! For your Best shopping experience, Jump into your time capsule (set it for 1989-90) I will grab my mullet and meet you at my shop!😜 Jeff
  2. Agreed! This makes the most sense! My 38,000 SS was never touched and was faint worn gold, yet inside tank was still gold-ish! Jeff 1970 SS454 Black
  3. I started my parts hoard in 1982 right after I purchased my first Monte the year before. Weekly trips to the scrapyard, and the local "Buy & Sell" paper were my only way of finding Monte Carlo parts! Dont forget, this was mid 1980 B.C. *before computers (or the internet). What a thrill it was to find tilt steering, a pair of bucket seats and console, or door panels still attached to a car in the scrapyard!! I had collected quite a few of these (and other great parts) by the time I took these pictures in 1987. During the late 80's, I sold most of them for around $500-$600 for buckets and console, earning myself a few hundred dollars each sale. (I was earning around $8 an hour back then, so that was some good cash! I sold the last of my buckets and console, ( *newly upholstered black, complete with new foam ) on Ebay in 2000 for $1,200 and thought I was a big roller! Yeesh! You always sell things too cheaply when you look back 20-30 years. By the way, I still have most of the chrome trim, knobs & handles, misc. accessories, emblems and lenses, but you now can buy these new, so I will probably still have them in the future! Anyone else have any old or new pics of their hoard / Parts to show? Jeff 1970 SS454
  4. You are correct; not painted from the factory. I guess I meant that I was surprised to see it wasn't even cleaned up and renewed, as opposed to the rest of the engine bay. Thanks very much for the link and discussion re: Mecum! A great read! 😎 Jeff 1970 SS454 Black
  5. WHat's up with that fan shroud? The car is all done (FABULOUS interior) but the shroud looks like a last minute panic! Not even painted! Anyone know how much this one brought? Jeff 1970 SS454
  6. Ron's Youtube channel is AWESOME! I really enjoyed the quality video and sound...(Not to mention the content!) That car is ART! Keep up the great content....so good to watch Jeff (enviouSS)
  7. EXACTLY what I thought! 😃 But more Suspect is they (GM) "thought" they had to appeal to 2 different audiences! Such a strange time that was! Btw, I bought the original 8x10 photo (black and white photo) and was from a newspaper ad from late 1969. Jeff 1970 SS454
  8. I still need to check my current SS to see if this tag is still on it Fingers crossed! Jeff 1970 SS454
  9. At first glance I did not see any numbers, but will open BOTH eyes this time!😉 I will look when I get back to the shop.
  10. What would this car be worth I wonder? And yes, I realize it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
  11. In 1991 I found a wrecked 71 SS. Among the parts I removed were the upper hockey sticks, rear 1/4 extensions, and the cowl tag (Canadian "Z20"). The car had been otherwise picked clean. The load levelling parts were long gone! I can't remember though, if I took the sport mirror. Could this be it? I have a 35 year parts hoard at my shop and over the years have forgotten. Is this a sport mirror for a 71 SS? Jeff 1970 SS454
  12. I honestly think the answer is "both" (black OR cad). My 38,000 mile, original SS had faded cad plating still on it and not a trace of black. Nothing was ever touched on that car. My buddy also has an untouched (needs restoration) 71 monte SS and the compressor has cad plating. Perhaps black is the more common color? Jeff 1970 SS454
  13. Hey Darren, Yes, Yours is the absolute proper way to do it! A TON more work, I am sure! Love that car! Also your "newer" green 72! Jeff 1970 SS454 Black
  14. "Argent" is French for "Silver" ☝️ (I paid attention in Canadian School) Hey, would that be "PLATA" Silver in the US? 🤪 Jeff 1970 SS454 Black
  15. How did the project go? Did they fit? Jeff 1970 SS454 (Also from Manitoba)
  16. Bruce, did your mirror actually have the proper angle when done? I think I was one of those people you mentioned who also got ALL the wrong gaskets in the box! No matter how I tried, it was off! Even using the gasket I already had on my old mirror didn't work! I think they sent me the wrong mirror. When I called Ausley's to Inquire, they wouldn't take it back or even make it right. Being in Canada, I just had to suck up that high shipping cost as well. I am stuck with a new mirror I cannot use. Future FOR SALE item! By the way LOVE your car!! Jeff 1970 SS454 Black Hardtop
  17. I would remove the guards and keep them in a box. Hidden. Out of site. Other than that, this is one Very rare car! Jeff 1970 SS454 Black
  18. Very smart of you to NOT get involved in that messy can o worms! Customer took the car....PHEW!! All GOOD! Jeff 1970 SS454 Black
  19. Yes,thats it! Plus your tank matches the booster...looks great!
  20. Thought you guys may get a kick out of this visual! In 1984, Back before the internet (and Photoshop) 20 year old me turned my FIRST Monte into a convertible, just to see how cool it looked! Good old X-Acto blades, photos and tape! Jeff 1970 SS454 HARDTOP!
  21. I was asked by a few local buddies to post a few more pics to show the finished piece and polished end. They really liked it in person, but I probably will make it stock. Would the back piece be Argent silver? Jeff 1970 SS454
  22. For those wanting to Google an image and perhaps print their own, the factory correct wood grain is called Carpathian Burled Elm. ☝️ Jeff 1970 SS454 BLACK
