  1. Cams have a lot of influence on vacuum. That seems like a lot of vacuum! Are you sure you are not on a "ported" vacuum source. Try to pull vacuum at another source. I don't understand your gauge! 36 is a good number for "all in" timing.

Motor is going good Dave, Waiting for the cam so I can check piston to valve before balancing.

Nice vid Dave. Did you notice the rear tire wobble on he camaro?
  4. My two cents are the same coins as Dave's When I run exhaust it is three inch with cut outs before the X pipe.
  5. Calculations say that the engine needs 708 cfm at 6000 rpm and 100% efficiency. Now your engine will never see 100% efficiency on the street. If you are going to stay under 6000 rpm I would say 650 would be the best carb for you. I am assuming that the posted cam specs are "advertized" not at .050 lift.
  6. With your 582 you are somewhat carb limited for strip duty. What is the RPM through the traps? Do you feel it nosing over at the big end? Work with what you have and have fun. See what you can do to improve 60 foot times. It will really help the numbers. I have that Holley pump on my 505 it works well for me. If you want to make the line change to 1/2 inch you should consider changing the pickup to one like this robbmc pickup I would just enjoy your time at the track and work with what you have for now. Good luck, have fun, be safe.
  7. Always liked these link
  8. I am at 38 on timing no vacuum advance. What compression and fuel? I don't run an air cleaner at the track.
  9. I will put it on after I pull the motor.
  10. It is just hanging there! Go ahead lift it out and paint it, I dare ya!
  11. Good progress. Amazed to see a picture without snow!
  12. Here is the finished hood!
  13. Yeah, you need more fuel! On another note, gas never leaks past my cap.
  14. Most tall deck blocks say truck on them.
  15. Seems like Dave's parts list would be a good way to go for your application.
  16. Chevrolet 12 bolts have 8.875 ring gear. Eaton has a good reputation with their clutch type limited slip carrier. They also have a helical gear limited slip that seems to work well. Timken is the bearing of choice because they are made in the US, but they are making a lower cost line that is made off shore, so be careful with your selection. Axel choice is up to your needs, I run moser. What are your plans for your ride?
  17. Factory 400 SBCs are externally balanced, unless it is for a 400 I would stay away.
  18. My wife picked me up some black vinyl at Jo Anne Fabric, That may work better than carpet. And it will be easier to tuck under the rear seat.
  19. I am sure you have looked at the TCI 6 speed in the 4l80 case. I don't think it has engine braking, but it is an option. A little pricey though.
  20. What Sam Said! Then go with the smaller domes
  21. Here is a little info on the 6L80 looks like a big trans with a really deep first gear and two overdrives. linky
  22. The cowl came from Auto Metal Direct. It is a 4 inch cowl 56 inches long the longest I could find.
  23. It is all good ask away! If you want to try something different try the search function.
  24. You are just going to deal with it, CHIP Happens! Get a artist brush spray some paint into the can lid let it set up a little and touch up. After all time the paint should be cured. I don't use rattle cans anymore, I go with PPG epoxy primer then base and clear. It holds up good but it is not for everyone. Maybe on the next one try some etching primer on the bare block. the paint may get a better bite. The paint on this block has been on two years
