  1. I did the same. Bought a non-posi 12 bolt unit, gutted it and bought an Eaton posi unit and Richmond 373 gear set from Summit. They can answer any questions you will have re: install kit etc.., As for setting up the gears, I'm with Sam- I do all of my own work, but sent the rear to a friend that knows how to setup gear lash. I did this in Jan of 07 and hopefully will know this summer how well he did!! Carl
  2. I see this is your 1st post. Welcome to the forum. You will find us guys and gals to be a very knowledgeable and hilariously funny group. If you want info on how to join (only $20 per year), let us know. Welcome Carl
  3. I remember reading in a car mag about a muscle car (pontiac?), that had frame holesawed for weight reduction and caused serious structural integrity problems. I believe the frames were sagging while cars were being transported. The weight of the big block was too much. Carl
  4. Soooo, you gonna go solar??? LOL Just wondering...... Carl
  5. That's good to hear. That's what I've got. Sound awesome while body is off the frame. Hope it sounds as good fully assembled. Carl
  6. What No fiberglass bumpers, or did I miss that one?? Carl

    Gas Tank

I recently installed new lines and gas tank. Bought them all from Classic Muscle http://www.oldmusclecars.com/ Lines all fit good, tank fits good but like in an earlier post, I said the tank (for 1972) has the wrong location for one of the vent lines. Will need to install a longer hose to get it connected. It is a Canadian tank and not sure if anyone makes it correctly. I will send pics of tank later when I find them. Carl
  8. What was the exhaust pipe end configuration on cars with duals? Was it different from certain factories, for 402,454? What about chrome tips? Carl
  9. It has always been the rear window for me. If you are unsure. get some 2-3 " wide tape and tape all the way around the trunk opening and then pour water on the window in each corner. Look up inside the trunk in the corners near the hinge. If they look like this pic, you probably won't have problems. It won't look like this if you do!! Carl
  10. Dave- That is fantastic news Bask in the glory, and then figure out what your going to do next!! Carl
  11. Bruce-thanks for a look back through the life of your beautiful car!!! Great job. Carl
  12. I am building for street/strip,while doing a full frame off resto, and really do not want to fill up the underbody of my car with rubber during burnouts. Have any of you racers fabbed or purchased any kind of shield to keep the rubber off the bottom of the car? Will be running 275-60/15 BFG Drag Radials. Carl
  13. I was looking at a website that sold among other things a driveshaft loop. They indicated that NHRA tracks require a loop for sub 13's. Is this true and do most of you guys just below that et have one? I know it's cheap insurance, but I don't want to get to the track my 1st time, run one 12.99 and have to go home. Carl
  14. Have owned since new, has 127K, it's a 1500 2wd auto w/OD,318ci, w/posi rear. Change tranny fluid every few years, never lost fluid, never changes color. No slip under any straight line acceleration conditions, shifts through all gears. Of course with the electronic shifting, it sometimes upshifts and downshifts in and out of OD under medium or heavy acceleration. For about 5 years tranny has acted weird when going around corners. Specifically from a dead stop and turning at intersections when speed is about 10-15 mph. The tranny will pull fine under acceleration but about 1/2 way through intersection it will act like it's slipping, and then hit hard like your shifting a clutch and popping it. I wonder if it could be a defective torque converter? Anybody ever experienced this condition on their vehicles? Thanks Carl
  15. This post belongs here too Dynomax Ultraflo's
  16. Here are some pics of my trans mount to frame connection
  17. That goes along with the statistics I saw on paint colors and was surprised to see that black and then green were the 2 greatest percentages of colors. I thought Andreas put this out but could not find it on the main page?? Carl
  18. Call Leo Konik at 810.334.4162. He is the expert and has the best supply of every kind of MC part you can imagine. I looked up those parts in my Classic Muscle catalog but no luck. If you are going to be buying many more parts I would suggest getting their catalog 800.722.4828. They have some of the best prices, quality of parts, and service/delivery. Most detailed catalog I've ever seen. Carl Bill- I like the latest change to you pic sig file. You gonna start changing it every 3 days??
  19. got a call from Classic muscle-bad news. The supplier will not be providing/manufacturer the correct tank. Guess I'll be extending the hose. Carl
  20. I purchased a new "Canadian" gas tank for my frame off resto. It is a 34P from Classic Muscle/Modern Chevrolet. Installed it after finishing the bottom strip, sand, prime and paint. Did not bother to hookup the 3 vent lines for a few months. After cleaning them and installing new hose and clamps, I realized the center vent pipe was not in the correct location. Factory tank center pipe is 1-2 inches off center (confirmed by the 72 factory assy manual). The Canadian tank center pipe is 6 inches off center to the opposite side. Modern Chevrolet contacted the mfgr and they confirmed they knew of the problem and sold 5 of these to unsuspecting Monte owners in 2007. The mfgr has begun making them correctly and will send me a new one after returning the one I have. Yes I know I could have extended a hose but that would be jack leg. Just thought someone might want to know...
  21. Got no answer to your question, but---I see you've got your latest photo. Love the new hood. I saw the pics of the hood during prime/paint. Carl
  22. Man am I glad I put these things out to you guys. I have been on the phone with Moser and Strange. The latest call to Moser the guy said exactly what you just said. I have found for most tech questions I need to get 3-4 opinions/(prefer experience). They suggested new axles only for my target ET (11's). He said if I get into 10's (maybe future goals-Gone in 60 SEconds!!), that I would need stronger spool. Did not know about the leaking issue-thanks Scott- where did you get the sweet looking rear bumper? Your garage looks like mine (at times) Sam-I was going through the same cost analysis on my 12 bolt. $235 for axles will put me into about $1200 after buying housing, new eaton posi, new richmond gears, studs, bearings, setup etc.. Carl
  23. Thanks David--I think for peace of mind after dropping 15+ G's on this thing, I don't want to watch an axle pass me while I'm nailing it on the qtr mile. C-Clip eliminators are in my future.
  24. Steve, Just looked at your website and the blue Monte that you restored and sold. Oh my God that was the most awesome frame off I have ever seen. I am speechless, and can't believe you would sell it. Who knows, maybe I would sell mine after finishing it-for the right price. The paint looked like glass over the very straight panels. How did you put the car body back on the frame and what type of color coded sport mirrors did you put on? Did you upgrade brakes for the 18", or modify front/rear wheel wells? Very impressive-now I'll go back and look at the rest of your 4 speed project. Nice web site too Carl
