  1. If its the same price, what the hell..get it, otherwise, I'm gonna say the 'HD case' is unnecessary unless you're gonna go off roading over rocks or Miatas, you want to make sure the internals are hardened where necessary for your future plans. Not a trans guy though.
  2. Thats what I would do if I had the money.
  3. Didn't know there was a curing period, thanks for the info guys.
  4. Got some Dynatech stepped headers (1 5/8 - 1 3/4)with the ceramic coating for my stroker, now I need to know if I can use them on the dyno to set up my engine out of the crate? I've heard that I can ruin the coating if they get too hot, but how hot is too hot? I think the only things I will have to adjust is the timing and carb, and that can be accomplished at a low RPM mostly, right? If I don't have to break in the valvetrain (roller cam)at higher RPMS they should be alright? Or should I use my rusty old 1 5/8"Heddmans until it is dialed in, then retune with the ARs.
  5. Yep thats him, old high school buddy. I'll let him do the talking, use my ears. Thanks
  6. Dave, no recourse for warranty work? Long story? I'm currently waiting for mine to be rebuilt, what should I insist on from my tranny guy? My engine is similar to yours I think. I trust him to be very knowledgable (his name's Hutch, well known around here), but can't hurt to inform him of known weaknesses from your experiences.
  7. Thanks for the tips guys, decided to keep it simple for now to get the car done sooner and rebuilt the th350, kept the cost and possible headaches down to half almost, will worry about mileage later...

    header size?

So Dave did you get the Dynatechs? I was looking at them too, my exhaust guy says they fit nice, but not sure if the 1 3/4 is too big. I'm running Fastburn heads w/large D ports. If you did what size worked.
  10. I've read Roe's book cover to cover and rebuilt 3 Q-Jets for friends, not real hard to do, but never did any real performance mods as he notes that most mods are permanent and are strictly for off road performance. Stiil I would like a pro to do the Monte's Q-Jet so I e-mailed Cliff Ruggles to get a quote to rebuild the '72 Q-Jet from my car. Quick response, Looong turn around. "Cliff Ruggles <cliffshp@embarqmail.com> to me show details 8:04 am (6 hours ago) Chris, the 7042202 will make a fine carb for the 383 engine. They were extremely lean and will need recalibrated in all areas. They are excellent carbs, I have one customer using that same part number in a Super Stock application, running 9.30's at 150mph! We charge $250 labor plus parts/shipping for complete/correct rebuilding. This includes rebuilding the throttle body with bronze bushings, recalibration, performance mods, and a running test prior to shipping. Add $125 to zinc/chromate the castings and plate the small parts if desired. Shipping is usually around $18 to about $22 for most carbs shipped to Canada. We mark the paperwork as customer owned, etc, to help with Customs fees. Currently apprx 7 months turn around time.....thanks....Cliff Cliffs High Performance 20579 Berry Road Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 740-397-2921"

  12. Thanks Rob, I'm stuck on dial up, so you saved me an hour or so. Chris.
  13. I wondered if the was any 'massaging' that needed to be done to the floor to make it fit, a buddy said he had to beat the hell out of his Chevelle floor.
  14. good to know. PG tailshaft is 11.5"
  15. Thanks, still haven't got the trans yet, was hoping to get the shaft done now, but probably right to wait and see. Anyone have a solid 700R4 for sale? Still looking for quality and price here in Canada.
  16. I'm going to swap my TH350 for the 700R4 and know I have to move the cross member and shorten the driveshaft, but thats all I know. I searched a bit but still wonder what the length should be in my '72. I also wondered if there is a driveshaft from another model GM that I could swap in without modifying? Any suggestions as to what yoke and u-joints I should replace my stock parts for? I'm 95% street and have a crate motor advertising 450ft/lb peak.
