  1. i have never seen them on any production montes anywhere and i have been collecting them since 1978 and have parted out many , i have only seen them on cars after they were available repo which i believe was the early 1980's , i will put my name on it that gm never put any on them from the factory i believe i would have seen at least 1 over the years , the repos do not look like a original gm part to me at all, and more than likely do not have any gm id on them like part number , molding id , and cavity id, the 73-77 2nd gen montes had them and i have seen many originaly equipped Leo
  2. the metal piece was 1970 only , and YES YES YES some 1970 montes came with drum brakes they are few and far between , and i must guess that many that came equipped with drums were later converted to disc , and some 70 montes also came with 2speed powerglide transmissions Leo
  3. .016 should get it running , then fine tune it with a meter to approx 30 Leo
  4. most people when talking about halo vinyl roof mean the early 70 models that do not come fully to the front windsheild and have the extra piece across the front , there were no 71 or 72 models factory equipped and no late year 70 models either , if a late build 70 or 71 72 have this option it was dealer installed , owner installed or the vin tage from a 71 or 72 model was placed on a early 70 body shell Leo
  5. i dont think so not with my experience with state farm , i would only use them for pl pd there is no way they will pay agreed value , Les thats a tough one even if the truck is mint i dont believe it would appraise at a high value unless it is highly modified ,if you do have an accident be ready for a big hassle Leo
  6. i believe that they used both as i have one with a 5000 and one with a 5500 both 454SS cars , talking with many people over the years and working in the auto industry makes me believe that both were used for whatever reason plant issues , supply issues or plain old plant mistakes it is 100% possible Leo
  7. I would agree with you Dave that they are referred to as belt mouldings by no means would i consider this to be a rare option and may have been used as standard equipment at some assembly plants not sure but i have seen this moulding on lots of cars 71-72 even some 70 models but it may have been added by the owner Leo
  8. I have seen these on many 71-72 Montes it was not a 72 Custom only feature Leo
  9. just using off and high normally only drive it in summer weather , my longterm plan is to do a full conversion to non air using the firewall from a non air car and putting in the vents and the entire dash assembly just my preferance ,the car is a street machine so originality is not a concern for right now the fiberglass cover looks great and turned out better than i expected and most people who look under the hood dont even realize it was a air car Leo
  10. contact me if you want ,i installed the delete cover you see listed on ebay it is well made and fit and looks great you have to do some drilling and cut the opening for the fan motor total installation took about 4 hours includin removing the fender well and repainting the fire wall i was happy with the results , if you cut a stock box i would leave about 3-4 inches from fire wall Leo
  11. Most stainless trim can be repaired and buffed to new condition , the rear panel is aluminum that is anodized to achieve a factory finsish you will have to remove the anodized coating metal finish out the dings then have the piece replated Leo
  12. most likely the dies were worn and not repairable in most cases the dies that make reproduction parts were remade from existing NOS parts after millions of hits the dies are just plain junk ask anyone in the tooling business , i measure car parts for a living mostly new stuff but right now i am reverse engineering a 70 mopar grille from a NOS part and new tooling will be produced from this part , so no big deal if anyone wants to make a die for 70-72 fenders let me know and i will gladly measure a NOS fender for them , i just dont believe the demand is there to cover the cost of tooling and liscensing thru GM i may be wrong but i believe they would have to get 500-700 per fender if they did ,at that price 2000 thousand fenders sold would not recoupe the investment Leo
  13. the standard and deluxe for 70-71 came in interior color and black in both versions in 72 the deluxe belt with warning flasher in the dash had a small black head and that was for 72 only the cars with that belt had the in dash light Leo
  14. Kevin i have a Miller cricket and have used it for about 15 years with no problems , get the gas its a must. that lincoln is a nice unit also Leo
  15. CORRECT all big block cars had round bushings, the functional differance is a stiffer bushing to support the extra weight and tighten handling Leo
  16. from what ive seen on original cars semi gloss is what you want , close to the same gloss as the black in the center of the lower trim Leo
  17. The dashes were all originally plastc chrome plated from the factory then painted interior color this process has been around for many years , i have not talked to anyone who has had a complete dash plated on a Monte, but i do have a friend that runs a business called American Plastichrome and he is reasonable if anyone is interested he is in Westland Mich. he did a 65 Impala dash for me and it looks super Leo
  18. Put a new alternator on they will sometimes test fine and still operate in this manner just had the exact same problem , took the alt back for a second test that time it failed Leo
  19. hi Steve heres the code off my build sheet for my 70SS FRT SHOCK EK REAR SHOCK EEED if you need anything else let me know as my sheet is in super shape and the car is a triple black fully loaded car Leo
  20. I have a 70 350 4speed bench ( Wario's old car ) and a 70 402 4speed car both are bench seat cars and have full documentation , the 70 350 car has the odd material that you cannot get repo. all of the cars i have seen with the 69 material were bench cars ,all the bucket seat cloth material was the same. Leo
  21. Gregg you are correct , i have a 70 with buckets and no console if you ordered a bench seat you could not get any type of auto floor shift , however you could get a four speed manual with bench seat. as far as material you can tell from the trim tag on the cowl if your car was cloth or vinyl. some early 70 montes used 69 impala cloth material which has a different pattern and is a hard to locate material. Leo
  22. Ralph Wyatt had some made years ago i have not seen any at the nationals in several years , what about the club member who made the fender skirt brackets for Kevin ? maybe he would want to fab some , i also thought the 70-71 were the same ???????
