  1. Thanks Guys. I appreciate the kind words. My goal was to recreate what I had and wanted in my original Monte back in the day. Back then the 1971 Monte with the elusive Aluminum headed LS6 4 speed combo was my "dream" car. One of the local racers swears he had one. That was back then. Who knows? With the combination of old memories and modern technology, I have the modern version of an old "dream".
  2. DiamondBack sells anything you need. Google them. They have a huge catalog.

    700R4

Hey Dan....I went for a ride in a customer of Pete's car. The gear vendors knocked the rpm down by 500 rpm. It did not seem worth it for the money. I think the hot ticket for built motors is the ford a08 trans.
  4. Thanks for the feedback Davey. I do have the ET street radials. It has the 2 treads down the middle and the treads going off to the side like you stated. I am running the 295/55 R15 like Al M. I am going to keep these on another set of rims for track day. Thanks to those who threw in their 2 cents.
  5. They will only put the white wall on the 555R. I did inquire about the NTO5R but that was not a choice. They also do the bf goodrich drag radial but I did not find any positive results on that tire either. They did do the M/T E T Street Radial a few years ago but MT changed who made them.
  6. Hey Davey......Thanks for chiming in. Are you talking about the MT ET Streets? I have them on the car now. I think they are approved for highway and are okay unless it's raining. I got caught in the rain with them and they are scary. I have only recently gotten the thing buttoned up and was not able to get it together for the last track rental. I would love to heat the current tires up and pull a few hole shots but I honestly do not know where I could get away with it. The cold weather that is setting in does not help. It hooked good with the old motor, 3.27 first gear and 3.70 rear gear. The new combo has an extra 125hp and torque with a 2.87 first gear. With the old or new combo, if I wanted to light up the tires, I could. But, if I don't MASH it, and just ease into the throttle......it does hook pretty darn good.

    1970 SS COPO

My original 1970 Monte back in the day had a 454/390. That is what the engine letters designated. I never did understand why that was. I think the corvette was rated at the same hp for the oval port motor that year. Was it just rated at a different rpm?
  8. If so, how do you like them? I want to complete the sleeper look with whitewall drag radials. Diamond Back only does the Nitto 555R. I currently have the Mickey ET Streets in the 295/55 on a 8" wheel with a 5" back space. The Mickeys work very well but I cannot get them in a white wall. For those that do not know my set up, I have a 71 Monte with a 582 pump gas 750hp 750tq, 5 speed TKO 600 and a Moser 9" with 3.70 Gears.
  9. Davey......You are wheelie living the dream............Enjoy!
  10. Liberty's Gears did my trans and you can go to their site for trans info. Mine was around $4000 with shipping. I would take Crazy Davey's lead on the open chamber heads.
  11. I have a tko 600 behind my 750hp 582 BBC in my Monte. It has been upgraded to withstand 900hp.
  12. My girlfriend has a 1971 pro street ventura. The motor is a 498 BBC (645hp 655tq) with a hydraulic roller, 10.5 comp, 950 Quick Fuel, 5 speed tremec, 3.50 rear gears and a 29" tall tire. We got 15.5 MPG on the highway cruising at 60 mph.
  13. Went for a cruise last night to a small hangout not too far away.
  14. Mine was an original 3 on the tree........
  15. 275/60/15 fit with no problem
  16. 8" with a 5" back space. I trimmed for a prior tire and there is plenty of room.
  17. Thanks..........yes the 582 is much cooler.........
