  1. I got the new hangers and tailpipe extentions installed this weekend. The hangers are perfect but the Instruction sheet picture is backwards. I installed them as pictured and the extensions stuck out to far. I took a look at the assembly manual and it showed the hanger should be mounted toward the front on the car (if that makes sense). The picture shows the hanger toward the rear.
  2. Thanks, I'll give them a try
  3. Does anyone know or have a good source for tailpipe hangers for my SS. The car came with what looks like one aftermarket and one factory. It also came with aftermarket pipe extensions. I have the factory extensions to put back on but it looks like they clamp at the hanger.

    SS #'s 454

My 70 is stamped TO227 CRN, I haven't located the part number
  5. When I post to the forum the times are off, is there something I can change? I posted this at 9:11 am and the post shows 3:11 pm
  6. Will do, my other question on that bulb/socket is should it light with the lights on or does it have to be on the circuit board to light up?
  7. That really helps, I've only been a member for a short time and amazed on how much help and knowledge is available on the site. You should be a consultant! Thanks again
  8. Thanks Dan, Is that easy to get at with the dash pad off? From the top or can I get it from the bottom??
  9. I'm replacing my radio to the original AM 8 Track. I pulled out the am radio that was just filling the hole in the dash. This socket with the bulb was up in the dash and I'm not sure where it should go. It seems to have a fiber optic on it. Any ideas?
  10. I am glad to have it. I have many projects planned for it as I also want to restore it back to factory stock. Good luck with the SS restoration.
  11. Steve, I'm glad you lost interest in the car from New Hampshire, I offered them a bunch less money and they took it. I'm thrilled I was able to by it and yes the green interior wouldn't be my first pick it's not that bad. Good luck with your search.
  12. After some research this morning I have found that the smooth air tank on the black compressor was used by Pontiac. I'm was a parts manager at a Chevrolet and Buick dealer for many years before I joined my families automotive consulting business. We have a number of old parts catalogs. I looked at the part number from the listing on ebay of the new compressor for 750.00 and referenced a 1974 Pontiac parts catalog and there it was. It fits all 1973 A, B and G models. I'm in the process of looking into Cadillac and Buick.
  13. That's a great looking car, good luck with the project.
  14. Dan. thanks with posting the pictures. I feel lucky to have found this car. I was at a car show 25-30 years ago in my wife's home town and looked at a car that was almost an exact copy of this one. I have been looking for a 1970 SS ever since. In January on Ebay I saw this car listed in New Hampshire, I contacted Jim the owner, told him my story and asked him for additional pictures. I made him an offer and he told me he would have to ask his wife Mary. I though that it was odd that he had to ask his wife but as it turns out it was her car. Jim told her my story and Mary excepted my offer. Turns out Jim was a Ford man and Mary liked Monte Carlos, I asked why they were selling it and Jim told me that they were going to retire to Florida and had no where to store it. She bought the car in 2001 after it had been stored for 13 years, It had 70000 miles on the clock when she bought it. After 16 years the clock reads 80000. Jim & Mary sent me all the documents including both build sheets, copies of the bills of sale, all of the receipts and a truck full of extra parts. Dennis as it turns out the car is Black with a Dark Jade interior. I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can about these cars and I think the people on this forum will be a great help with that.
  15. Dennis, thanks for setting me straight on the members names and who does what. Since I joined I've been reading/enjoying alot of different posts. It gets confusing at times. Bob W. Thanks for the welcome. Let me try to put some info together about my new car. I have tried to upload a few pictures and they are to big so I have to figure out how to make them smaller. Thanks, Paul
  16. Great, I'm hoping Bob can make up a set of brackets for the compressor as well.
  17. Dennis, I checked both compressors and they both have the Delco USA stampings. The silver compressor has a stamping that looks like 318-7, I'm not sure if that is some kind of date stamp. Is there a way to test these compressors to see if they function or do most just have them rebuilt and refinished? Any advise would be get, Thanks
  18. I ended up buying these compressors from a guy in Chicago before I joined the forum. He stated they were both for a Monte. The silver compressor measures 14 1/4" so I'm hoping it's correct for my car. I beleive the black one fits a Cadillac. My first question is what color should the tank by for a 70? I have seen black, silver and a gold finish. The next question is how does one know if they need to be rebuilt? Are there any stamping numbers to confirm that its correct? Thanks in advance, Paul
  19. Dan, I justed joined the forum this week. It was great reading and seeing your progress on the SS. Looks great, can wait to see the finish car. Paul
