  1. I'm jealous of the info you Canadians can get on your cars.....
  2. '70 MCSS and '55; filled the tanks with non-ethanol premium, added sta-bil, hooked up the battery minders and closed the garage doors for the winter
  3. You guys are crackin' me up! Oh, and the car is hideous.......
  4. Congratulations on the new ride. I'm partial to black, but the rosewood looks very nice.......and rare.
  5. Doing your own painting can be very rewarding! Are you going to paint the body yourself?
  6. I loved that magazine, subscribed for many years.......
  7. Installed a new correct throttle cable, plus some rubber bumpers and grommets around the hood. Fewer rattles and more throttle....always a good thing!
  8. Participating in the Flashback Cruise this weekend in Bend, OR. Today's show is on the grass in Drake Park. Downtown cruise this evening. Nice to spend the day with the Monte and lots of car folk...
  9. Quality video. Great memories, thanks for sharing.
  10. Nice pics Tyler! Enjoyed hanging out with you and thanks for sharing.....
  11. Luv those black Monte SS454s!
  12. Great pics Liam and Matt, thanks for sharing! They'll keep the memories fresh in my head until Carson City. Nice to see Matt and Aaron could caravan together for a bit on the return trip.
  13. Just back and unloaded from Boise. Wow, what a terrific event! Thanks to all the members of FGMCC for absorbing us "newbies" into the group so quickly. What a great bunch of folks to hang with......I'm already excited about Carson City next year!!!!!!
  14. My MCSS was delivered a day early . I've had a chance to check it over and will be bringing it to Boise Saturday!!!!! Should be there early afternoon. Really fired up about the Motorfest now . See everyone tomorrow......
  15. Well, my '70 MCSS won't be delivered in time for the Western Nats The transporter had mechanical troubles and the expected delivery day is now Friday am. I'm going to delay my departure to be here for delivery and head to Boise on Saturday am. Because of the short turnaround time, I'm not going to bring the MCSS. At least I'll get a chance to meet other members and see/photograph the collection of cars. Still looking forward to the show, just not AS excited
  16. Just got word that my "new" MCSS was loaded on the truck this morning! Should be here in time for Boise. Would be nice to bring a Monte to the meet.......
  17. I say change the car to make it more enjoyable for you.....as long as it can be put back to original in the future!
  18. Thanks for the site! I haven't unpacked my Chevrolet by the numbers book since our move. Having this website will definitely come in handy!
  19. I've been poking around trying to find a source for decoding MC trim codes. Where should I be looking? Thanks!
  20. I think it's very interesting that Canadian SS Montes had the Z20 stamped on the cowl tag. What were the production figures for Canadian SSs? Maybe I should look more to the great white north :-) Honestly, I feel very comfortable identifying legit cars and have avoided being cheated in the past. Really just glad to know that some of the games being played with Chevelles and Corvettes are not common with the SS Montes. Building a clone or tribute car and selling it as such is fine. Trying to pass it off a legit is crap. Rule of thumb is always "buyer beware"!
  21. Wow, that's actually a great idea! While I don't like supporting a dishonest practice, that's using it to my advantage.... It would be interesting to see a confirmed false bs next to a legitimate on. I had an ebay seller (#250753675592) send a copy of his build sheet. It's the most perfect one I've seen...
  22. I've been cruising the forum looking at photos of members build sheets. I notice that all of the options listed on the lower section are usually in alphabetical order. Is this pretty universal? That would be a red flag to a doctored up build sheet. Type style seems to be an indication of a fake. I know I'm probably being over paranoid, but this is a real problem with other rare cars (that doesn't seem to have migrated to the Montes)
  23. Thanks for the advice on "independent inspectors". Seen a lot of them advertised, but never used one. Been a member of Classic Chevy Int'l for 37yrs and have had good luck in the past asking members to look at cars in their local area. I have noticed that FGMCC guys will check out ebay cars and report on the forum. A great source of information.....
  24. Good advice KWick 70MC and Monte7071. I would be hard pressed to buy a collector car without seeing it in person or have someone trustworthy check it out objectively for me. The only possible exception would be an unrestored car, which would be less likely to have hidden problems........ 2010 was a good buyer's year for SS Montes on ebay and hopefully 2011 will produce a few good examples to consider.
  25. More great info....thanks guys! I have restored several Chevys ('55,'65,'68,'70) and always liked the pre-69 cars where the SS was a different model number. I agree that faking Monte SSs is probably not a high priority for crooks considering their value vs Chevelles & El Caminos. That's good for us! I'm in Bend and hope to make it to Boise (with a car would be nice!)
