Patrick Sheean
Looks like we have the same radio. Hope you enjoy it. I have Memphis Audio speakers in the dash with resistors to eliminate the lows. My two 6 x 9's in the rear deck handle the rest. Sounds pretty good. I made some minor changes to the original speaker brackets and all fit perfectly.
Rock
As far as the front speakers go, I used component speakers in the front and mounted the mid range and tweeters in the dash and the bass speaker in the kick panels....sounds awesome. I have had many compliments on the system. Keeps the lows , low where they belong and the highs at or around ear level where they should be. Rock
The filters are velcroed under the dash pad and the tweeters and mid range are attached to the speaker brackets. i dont have pics of the tweeters though.
QuadGTI
How is the drivers side? Does your emergency brake work?
Rock
How is the drivers side? Does your emergency brake work? Clears it by 1/2".....but my grills stick out quite a bit. Some shallower grills would be optimum.
Leghome
Rock I am getting ready to put in new front speakers and a new circuit board on the cluster. What LED's are you using? Rock
Rock I am getting ready to put in new front speakers and a new circuit board on the cluster. What LED's are you using? How many? and are you replacing all the lights int he cluster with LED's?I believe it was 16 LED and I used white which still gave me the green tint since I have a "70" I bought them off a vendor on ebay. I think I paid $9.99 for 20 LED.http://m.ebay.com/itm/131324521586?nav=SEARCH They are polarity sensitive so you have to make sure to test before you put it all back together. QuadGTI
Update; Gave up on the clock and ordered a new one, came in yesterday and its installed The drivers kick panel is in and it looks nice No kicking or scraping against it and the hand brake is operational
Rock
Nice...are you using component speakers? I like how you reused the original panels...I bought after market since I am lazy!
QuadGTI
A bit more work to show progress Also cleaned up behind the dash since it was hanging Over 40 years of dust and crap which needs to be cleaned up Not sure how my dash even lit up, a few of the wires melted so I spliced them and re-taped them .... something to think about in the future guys Not happy with my dash pad even if it is in so so mint condition, problem is its an aftermarket one and just doesn't sit snug on the dash as it should. Time to search Kijiji and craigslist for an SS model one in black.
MC-71
Who made your dash pad? Was it a OER? They are suppose to be the best. Carl
QuadGTI
Not sure who made the dash pad but I'm not happy with it and will be looking over Boxing Day to purchase a new one. Not too familiar with OER, I mostly deal with OPGi and recently The Parts Place.
MC-71
OER is considered a Manuf. They supply parts to the vendors. They are considered the best in the industry. Just look for their label. The box is yellow and black. More money for their product but it will also bear the GM number. I have never been disappointed. And only my 2 cents. QuadGTI
Thanks for the info Carl. Where are they located?
MC-71
They are a wholesaler. You can buy it from most Chevelle Suppliers. Just make sure to ask for OER brand. I bought mine from Summit Racing. OPG also sells them. Also make sure that it is the vinyl one. Here is the part number in black thu Summit. OER3965461 70-72 Chevelle and Monte with Stereo. $309.47. Now I don't mean to throw you a curve ball, but the one I received was in a box with Dash Direct label on it. Made in The USA. They are the people that make them for OER who is owned by Classic Industries in Calif. All the numbers match up. I was a little upset when I rteceived but they assured me it is in deed the OER. Just that it was only shipped from Dashes Direct and not Classic Ind. and reboxed. They are the best you will find. Let me know how you make out. QuadGTI
After looking closer at some of my wires under the dash as was replacing the clock I noticed some of the wires were corroded and casing was cracked.
QuadGTI
Finally finished working on gauge cluster lights, they look sooo much brighter now. The only issue I have now is with the cluster lens its so dull, gonna try to buff it out or just buy a new one Also changed up the square box subwoofer with this cylindrical looking one which will look better once the carpet and amps are set.
