hi all

can some one help me id this ring pinion? it is a 12 bolts.

the # on the ring " 3819037 9:37 GM 2-72"

the only # found on the carrier is " A-28-C" I took the bearing cap of to look for the casting # but it is not there. there is a big "master" casted into the side where the ring bolts goes.

i need the info to see what series carrier i have so i can order new ring pinion set.

thanks for any help.

The easiest way is to put a mark on a tooth on both the ring and pinion. Magic marker or dab of grease and count the number of teeth. Do it twice to ensure the number of teeth is correct on both. Then divide the number of teeth on the pinion by the number of teeth on the ring gear. You will know then what your rear-end ratio is. My 12 bolt was 2.73 and I changed to 3 series 3.55 gears with Eaton L/S. Eaton was $350 on ebay new.

I am probably wrong but I thought the 9:37 was the teeth count which would be 4.11 or the 2-72 would be 2.73's I would say count the teeth smile
