Trueblue
I will preface this question by stating that I know absolutely nothing about mechanics. Just starting to do research on possibly getting more horsepower out of a 350 motor, going to a 383 Stroker with about 450 hp. Would like to do a 3.55 Posi rear end as well. So, my question is will I also need a different transmission than the stock 350 that is in the car? This will be a daily driver, not a racing car, but looking for more punch and horsepower to enjoy. Not a car that I plan on driving cross country.
dejh22
I'm running a 383 in my 1971 Monte Carlo. I also have a 3.55 rear gear. My transmission is a 350 turbo that was rebuilt about 20 some years ago. I have not had any problems, but I do not drive the car that often anymore. I had been running a strong 355 for up until the 383 was installed about 9 years ago. I did drive the car much more often. I also was not afraid to run it hard. GatorDog72
A turbo 350 should do just fine. As long as it's in good condition it should hold up well with 450 hp. If you are worried about it breaking, pull it out and have a trans shop take a look at it to find out the condition it's in.
mymontesa70
350 should be fine, i would maybe look into a stall converter if youre looking to get the most out of that 383 and those gears
Its Just Me
As long as you don't put sticky tires on you will be fine. Drag radials have ruined many a "good" transmissions. Have fun. Scott
