kc8oye
I was reading through some old posts.. and some people have used their existing driveshaft, and some have had to have them shortened.... Rob (70montecar) says he used his driveshaft as-in with his BTO 700r4... is this somthing special BTO does to the trans? This is the last piece of the puzzle I need before I embark on the cost of the swap :> and since I may have murdered my TH350's front pump.. I might be swapping fairly soon :>
Ian
I found these numbers on the TCI website, the formatting is a little off, but the "A" numbers is the overall length, "B" if face of transmission to the tailshaft, "C" is face to mount, and "D" is mount bolt spacing. If you look at the TH350 with a 9" tailhousing it is about the same as the 700R4 overall so that would not need to have the driveshaft shortened. Hope this helps, Ian TH350 (bellhousing pattern - Chevrolet, BOP, Fit-All) Style A B C D E 6" tailshaft 27 11/16 21 5/8 20 3/8 3 ¾ 19 1/8 9" tailshaft 30 11/16 21 5/8 20 3/8 3 ¾ 19 1/8 12" tailshaft 33 27/32 21 5/8 20 3/8 3 ¾ 19 1/8 TH400 (bellhousing pattern - Chevrolet, BOP) Style A B C D E C tailshaft 28 3/8 24 5/16 26 15/16 4 ¼ 20 D tailshaft 33 27/32 24 5/16 27 15/16 4 ¼ 20 13" tailshaft 37 7/8 24 5/16 27 21/32 1 ¾ 20 2004R (bellhousing pattern - BOP, Fit-All) Style A B C D E All 27 11/16 integral tailhousing 27 3 ¾ 19 1/8 700R4 4L60 (4L60E 1993-1995) (bellhousing pattern - Chevrolet) Style A B C D E All except Corvette 30 ¾ 23 3/8 22 ½ 3 ¾ 20 Corvette (1982-1996) 29 7/8 23 3/8 22 ½ 3 ¾
Mikstudie
I may be wrong but i thought all you had to do was swap tailshafts???I know when i went to a 4 speed from a th350 i had to use a front driveshaft yolk from a th400 trans the splines were different. monte70car
tim is right i have the stock 350 drive shaft in my monte with its 700r4 trans. the 350 yolk is stronger then the 700r4 so they replaced the old 350 yolk with a new one. monday we took the monte for a 45 mile trip 50-55 mph i was only turnin 1250 rpm's in overdrive. Ian
Rob what gears do you have to be turning that low? I would think that was a little low and you would be lugging the engine? I have 2.73's with the big block, and I am going to do the tranny before the gears, but don't want to hurt anything... Ian
502ci
Rob what gears do you have to be turning that low? Ian He would have to have 2.73's in there to turn that in overdrive... Bill
monte70car
like bill said i have the 2.73 gears with 255/50/16 tires under the rear. from a red light it dont take its time to get rollin like it did with the 350 and 400 trans. it shifts into overdrive at 40 mph turning 2500 rpm's
kc8oye
ahh ok.. I'm pretty sure I have the 6" tail housing on my TH350 so I guess I would have to get it shortened. that's simple enough. thanks for the input!
monte70car
here is what my drive shaft measures cent of u-joint to center of u-joint 53" i have 1" sticking out of the tail shaft. my cross member is in the second hole on the fame which looks to be the same place as the 350 was at. the old 350 trans has a 6" tail shaft
kc8oye
well, I just measured mine, 55-1/4" ujoint to ujoint. with only about 1/2" of yoke sticking out of the tail housing. my crossmember location won't mean anything to you because I use an impala crossmeber solid-bolted to the frame. (no rubber bushings)
