Question about my 99 Dodge Ram PU shift issues

Have owned since new, has 127K, it's a 1500 2wd auto w/OD,318ci, w/posi rear.

Change tranny fluid every few years, never lost fluid, never changes color. No slip under any straight line acceleration conditions, shifts through all gears. Of course with the electronic shifting, it sometimes upshifts and downshifts in and out of OD under medium or heavy acceleration.

For about 5 years tranny has acted weird when going around corners. Specifically from a dead stop and turning at intersections when speed is about 10-15 mph. The tranny will pull fine under acceleration but about 1/2 way through intersection it will act like it's slipping, and then hit hard like your shifting a clutch and popping it.

I wonder if it could be a defective torque converter?

Anybody ever experienced this condition on their vehicles?

Thanks

Carl

I don't have an answer. Just throwing my rant in. I have an 02 dodge ram. The transmission is crap, takes forever for it to shift into drive from park. It dropped a rocker arm about two months after I bought it, then after the shop fixed it, they failed to put enough coolant in and the engine overheated on the way home. Take it back to the shop, now it has a cracked head. Another 3 weeks in the shop (warranty issues) and I get it back. Now it diesels occasionally when I shut it off. But I can't afford to have them take my truck for another three weeks, so I just live with it. Warrantys good for another year, I am hoping the tranny blows up so I can get it and the engine fixed in one visit. frown

I have an '03 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4. 78000 miles and running and shifting like a champ. Hope it stays that way. At my work there must be at least 75 dodge pickups and I haven't heard any complaints, but I will start asking.
