Crank
Finally found a 12 bolt posi out of a Chevelle. Can someone help decode the number on the housing the guy sent me? #3917124. It’s a long way from home and comes with no gears. He’s asking 1k CAD. Seems like a lot, but have to purchase without be able to inspect it if I want it. Been looking for ever! MC1of80
Crank, ask for the numbers and letters off of the left axle tube. All others are casting numbers.
jft69z
That's a casting number. On the passenger side axle tube, facing the front, there should be a hand stamped set of letters & numbers. Try to get that number and we can figure out what it came out of. Here is some good data too: http://chevellestuff.net/qd/rear_axle_info.htm EDIT: Tom beat me to it while looking for the Chevelle site link, lol.

MC1of80
Ummmm. Silly question, what does it matter how the rear was "born"? You obviously have to rebuild it the way you want. Unless you are looking for a numbers correct rear for your car will the numbers matter. Just asking.... Bottom line is that it is a 12 bolt.
