mymontesa70
so long story short. i have a 383 in my car and a turbo400 sitting on my bench. my question is i still have no idea what stall converter to run, and 2. since i have it out should i throw a shift kit in there? the more i think about it the more pointless it seems. thanks and thanks again
BowtieThunder
If the tranny is out you might as well throw a shift kit in it wont hurt...Dont know much about your motor but I would say min of 3500 max of 4200 on the convertor

Mike 57
I would put a shift kit in it. Call some converter manufacturers, have your cam and gear info they can help you with converter. The higher the stall converter the sloppier the shifts will seem when the engine is shifting below the rated stall.
zmanabba
X2 on shift kit. I had one in mine with the stock converter and it would rattle your teeth when shifting (impressed my friends but got old). I put a 2400-2800 stall converter and it softened it right up. But it still gets rubber on the full throttle shifts. I feel they are designed to be used together. David
