GallagherJ
Hey guys, I'm considering the purchase of a 1988 fuel injected 454 from a chevy truck. I'd like to stick it in my 70 Monte. Can you mount a mechanical fuel pump on a 1988 block if you don't want to use the injection. I think it's a Gen IV block.?? All 2 cents would be appreciated. thanks Jack G
Sam (Bones)
I'm almost positive that would be a mark IV block and yes a fuel pump mounting provisions don't ask me why they changed it to GEN V & VI
Mike 57
Sam is right 88, blocks have fuel pump provisions. The throttle body injection is on an adapter that is bolted on a Qjet intake.
GallagherJ
Excellent, thanks Sam N Mike, Just what I wanted to here. I looked at it today, $850 for a running 1988 454 FI and TB400 with 95k. Thx Jack G
bigtankjones
Sounds like a good deal. I have the Mark V in my 70. I wish it had the mechanical fuel pump mount on the block. Cause I hate the sound of the electric fuel pump.
GallagherJ
Thanks all, I didn't purchase. The 88 C30/3500 crew cab duelie pickup has totally different brackets for P/S, Alt and serp belt setup etc. I would have to change everything up front including changing back to carb. An older Suburban has car like p/s pumps and brackets, it would be a more cost effective swap. So now looking for early to mid eighty's Suburban.
