lowcadillac
Hi all, after a bit of advice. My washer pump isn’t working and someone’s screwed an after market one to the wheel arch liner, poked the wires into the original motors plug and it looks rubbish. I’ve fitted a new diaphragm kit and still no joy so think it’s the seal/ o ring on the piston inside the pump. Can I get a replacement from any where do you know? 72-CLASSIC_RIDE
If the wiper washer pump is dead and won't pump when prompted, you need a new washer pump. But first offer more info on what does/doesn't happen when you try to use squirters. Sometimes if hoses are dry and no water in the pump, pump needs primed with water. Lack of water may be your problem. If ordering a new washer pump, make sure it is the correct one for your vehicle. Use your search function or wait to see if anyone can provide you a part number based on year of your car. Some have park and others don't as an example. If you have an OHM Meter, you can check resistance and also if getting power to the pump. Here is some info I just located......................................................... There are 2 styles of wiper washer pumps. One #DA90228 comes with circuit board(s) while to other is a Manual Pump? Note: For 1970-1972 Monte Carlo without concealed wipers, please see Part # DA90228. http://www.dixierestorationdepot.com/Product/Search.aspx Doug
Rob Peters
I had to replace my pump a year ago. Mine quit working and I wanted to rebuild it but found the plunger broken inside and could not rebuild mine. I was able to purchase one from advance auto parts. I just put in the year of my Monte Carlo and purchased the one that came up for my year Monte. It doesn't look completely original but it fit perfectly. rob
lowcadillac
Mechanically the pump works, you can here it clicking when you press the washer switch but it won’t provide the necessary suction to pump the water. I think the o ring on the piston much be at fault but don’t know if you can get a replacement. Thanks for the part numbers, that may be my only option, however I will see if I can prime the pump somehow. Whatever happens the universal one on the wheel arch has got to go. Thanks for your help. 72-CLASSIC_RIDE
Pull one of squirter hoses and see if it's dry on the end, if so you aren't getting water to the squirters which once primed still don't work you need a windshield washer Pump. When mine went out it was the o-ring(s) that allowed water to spray everywhere but onto the windows and could be seen when pump ran. I tried the o-ring kit but did not seal. lowcadillac
Well I fitted a Delco Remy pump from RockAuto. Not original I know but to the untrained eye it looks good. And I’ve now got rid of the horrible one screwed to the inner wheel arch cover along with its ugly wiring and droopy tubing. I’ll keep the original in case I ever find a new seal for the piston one day.
