Drive the Monte should be option 1, not 4.

Looks like the engine is in, so there is half the battle. Just need a drivers seat and dash, some working lights, bumpers and a windscreen and you could drive it the short distance to the Eastern Meet. To me that's about a week and a half of work, so there is no excuse not to drive it on over!

I recommend the Bilstein shocks as well. I have had them for several years and they perform quite well, limiting body roll and helping with cornering immensely. That being said, the ride height is determined by the springs and if your car sits too high you may want to consider swapping those out after checking the height without shocks as recommended by Mark

Awards or not, I cannot believe any of us is jealous of the "other" group. 😕

It should be noted there were no Monte Carlos in '68. (none in '68 and a wake up either)

If you are talking to me, I am not interested in a dash at Carlisle. Too big and bulky to transport home for starters. I know this doesn't really apply to the big plastic dash assembly, but I tend to shy away from 50-year-old plastic parts in favor of new ones because plastic tends to become brittle with age and I have seen too many plastic parts fail for no apparent reason other than age to fully trust them. Thinking about the dash though, I don't think there are any small areas that would be prone to cracking like the dash insert molded screw anchor areas. I think I still have my original dash in the box the new one came in and I will have to dig it out and see if the repair is something that is a viable option.

if you want to see how bad an aftermarket dash is just check my car in Carlisle. The upper area where the pad sits isnt even straight which causes the dash pad to bow up on one side and in the middle. My original had the radio area completely cut away and back then nobody offered the plastic cups for the radio knob posts. Even so I doubt they would have worked because so much material was missing. No amount of dremeling has been able to correct the obvious bow in the upper area of the replacement dash. I have considered driving to NPD, which is about an hour away, and seeing if they have one in stock I can check with a straight edge, insert and a dash pad for fitment. If they do someday down the road I will get one because the dash is one of the few things I can actually see while driving down the road and its really not pleasant to look at. You know, someday when I have $500 bucks just lying around that I want to throw at something just for aesthetics and has no impact on performance, comfort or drivability.

Thats how I look at it too. The "reward" comes from the trip mostly, but also the folks in the club. I love driving the Monte and bench racing. It's always an adventure and not to be missed. The event itself is, to me, the same old same old..... same vendors and same sitting around near cars. (yawn)

Plastic. Unfortunately, I installed my plastic inner fenders before the Monte specific ones were available so they are Chevelle inner fenders and do not have the wire loom channels in them, nor do they fit exactly. When they finally crack Ill get the plastic Monte ones. Been on since 2002 so who knows when they will finally crack. What I do know is they will never rust.

I count on the rain to wash mine. Hope it rains on the way up, so my wash is fresh for the show!

I have had very good luck with the Optima Red Top batteries. It can sit for a month or more, no battery tender, and still deliver plenty of cranking power, even when several years old. I am only on my second one in 8-9 years of buying the first one. Some folks balk at them because they don't look stock (the red is funky looking) but I could care less, so long as I can rely on it. Someone already said it..... from the drivers seat at 70mph it looks just fine.
