  1. How do you find these cars Leo? Thanks for saving another!
  2. I did this years ago. Long story short, I bought some aftermarket 2 piston calipers (Power Stop?) and they stopped worse than the stock single pistons. I then changed over to manual brakes with a master cylinder and rod from Master Power Brakes (I think), and used the different mounting point on the brake pedal. Still didn't stop well, so I went back to stock all around. BUT, I never tried the manual setup with stock single piston and standard type pads. It may work better than my manual setup with the dual piston and performance pads. I also tried a vacuum pump and hated it - too noisy and results weren't that great. I wish I had a better answer for ya. Try the Chevelles.com, betcha somebody will chime in.
  3. Don So what happened with this car - did you buy??? Great find!
  4. I LOVE what you have done with your car! That thing must be a blast to drive. Curious why you went with stock exhaust manifolds on such a modified car. Super cool ride..........
  5. I just got the news from this post......so sad. I spoke with Crazy Davey a few times when I was building my 502 and he was just the nicest and most helpful person you could ever want to meet. Heck, he even sent me a 502 flywheel (for free) when I couldn't find one locally. RIP Davey
  6. Mad Max-esque! Great to see it up and running again!

Great job! Absolutely gorgeous..... Great incentive to get my act together..........
  8. Wow, great turnout and the weather looks awesome! Thanks for the great vid!
  9. That's a huge rpm difference!! Seriously, how do you fix that? I had a similar issue with my VDO tach and it really messed me up when I went to the track. My shift light wasn't matching the tach and turns out my tach was reading too high......
  10. Wow that thing pops! On my computer, it looks orange....what color is it? Give us the specs! Congrats!
  11. I put a post up a long time ago regarding the 2.56 and 3..31 gears in the SS cars. I have yet to find a 70 SS that had anything other than a 2.56......same goes for the 3.31 in 71. I'm not saying they didn't exist, but I haven't seen otherwise. Oddly, the Canadian version of the sales brochure lists 3.31 as the only gear for the 70 SS454, yet all I've seen is 2.56 for 70., Anyway, I agree with the others that 3.31 is a great all around gear. With 3.31s, I have found that you can really tweak your highway cruising rpm with tire size. With a shorter tire, I find myself in the slow lane doing 3000 rpms at about 65, but now I'm running the tall 28" tires (275/60/15), and I cruise at under 3k at 70....in the middle lane! If you are building a low to mid range 454, I think the 3.08 would be the best all around gear for both city and highway....maybe with mild converter. Dennis - those mph/rpm calculations include torque converter loss? With my mild converter, I take my foot off the gas on the highway and the rpms immediately drop like 400 or 500 rpms.
  12. Great story to go with a beautiful car! Truly part of the family........... Mike
  13. Good luck with the purchase! Silver with black top was the car that I saw while riding my bike as a kid, and I thought it was one of the coolest cars ever with that roof line and fender bulges......
  14. I counted 3 in this months Hot Rod, but this link highlights 4 of them. It's a fun read for us First Gen guys. Mike http://www.hotrod.com/articles/big-heavy-monte-carlos-fastest-cars-drag-week/
