Wasn’t even looking for it. Noticed a piece of paper sticking through a drain hole in the right front fender just behind the inner fender. Took almost 2 hours to put together. This covers the small amount missing from the first one.

What did you do to your Monte Carlo today?

Wow! You’re right about that. That’s something I’ve never seen before. That is way cool. I’ll definitely remember that. -
Nice find. You should’ve weighed the car before and after cleaning. The hornets nests on the air cleaner are a nice touch. Post more after it’s cleaned up.

Just read Joes post and comments regarding the GM - UAW cruise that sparked me to get this off my chest. Hot Rod magazine coined the phrase, I think in the 80s or maybe early 90s “dare to be different” to promote the cars you just don’t see. Are we in that group? I’ve had my 69 Z/28 for 24 years and have been going to shows as a spectator 25 years prior to owning it. As you know, like tri five Chevys, first gen Camaros at shows are everywhere. Went to a big show out here in SoCal. 2500 cars and no first gens. I would have been the only one had my trans seal arrived on time. 1 second gen, I believe a 74. There was even an Edsel wagon. It was always apparent to me that they were few and far between, but now that I have finally replaced my first car (a 71 purchased in 74) it’s more apparent than ever. What’s up with that? Can’t remember the last time I saw one in a magazine. I know I’m biased but man are they good looking cars. I’ll stop now, sorry for the rant.

Took the Monte to a fundraiser for veterans car show. The 2 to the right belong to some friends. The Monte got to proudly wear its Best of 70s medal.

Welcome Joseph, love the Z/28. Great job. Like Joe, mines a year older, but not an RS. That Monte looks great. Most would love to have that as a starting point. Nice shop too.

Mine is the base 350(2bl carb). The bracket it snaps in to has the power brake booster hose passing through it.
-
When I get back to the car I can send a photo of the hook up. I’m not sure how helpful that will be if yours is a foot of reaching the carb. Is there some kind of end on the cable?

I just did the exact same thing a couple days ago. Went to change the fluid and filter when I noticed the small leak. After reinstalling the pan, I left the fluid out until the tool and seal arrived from Amazon (2days). I had to open up the hole in the tool because it didn’t fit over the shifter shaft. It left a sharp edge that I softened up to prevent scoring the shaft. Then I took a file to sharpen the lead in thread to get the tool to bite into the old seal to remove it. I’m not with the car now but when I get back I can send a photo.

Welcome to the club. If you’re somewhat new to this classic car scene, then you’re just at the tip of the iceberg on the amount of cool people you’ll meet.

Engine Oil, synthetic Oil or Conventional oil?

Valvoline VR1 10w40 high zinc. Year round. (California) -
One thing that is extremely helpful, and I’m sure Dennis and most the others can attest to, is a factory assembly manual. It’s dedicated to your year car. ss396.com has them for $25 plus shipping. They were actual reference guides used by the factory during the build process. They can make life easier when putting your car back together. There is another that I don’t have, but will probably get, and that’s the Fisher Body Manual. Maybe someone can chime in on that one.
-
Glad you got it. Replace the door handle and lock gaskets when you’re re assembling. They’re real cheap.
-
If you remove the rubber bump stop that the window mechanism sits on, it will allow you to lower the window about another 1/2” to expose the felt mounting screws a little better. Be careful not to go too far or the guide rollers will come out of the guide channel. Not the end of the world, just a little finagling to get them back in.

Went to a big show this weekend after ordering the mats and they had a tent there. Picked up a 23 catalog for my Buick. I noticed the quarter panel script I tried to get from them last year was on sale. I assumed because it was now on sale that they finally got some. Nope, discontinued do to lack of interest.
-
Went to get the floor mats and 1 key blank. Both on B/O
-
Just put the flag out.🙏

I’d remove the mirrors too. I’m assuming they’re still on because they’re remote. If you’re removing the door panels, might as well do the mirrors also. I think you’ll be glad you did.

Did you like the quality and fit? I’m thinking about ordering a set. I’ll be in the area of the California OPGI this Saturday. I can save the shipping. If they are out of stock they’ll ship them on their dime. Hopefully they’re not. They were able to send you 2 sets. Maybe they should change their name to OPGIBO.

Just finished repainting the driver side rocker satin black. Straightened the pinch weld also. Probably from a floor jack. The rockers were body color from a previous repaint. Still have the passenger side to do. Maybe next week. Can’t see both sides at the same time. -
Seeing that drain plug, they probably never even removed the pan. I could be wrong but I don’t remember GM putting drain plugs in the pans. I always felt it was intentional to force pan removal for cleaning and more importantly, filter replacement.

What a diverse group. Pretty much covered all the bases.

Either Santa came early or your checking account is empty.

Had a 74 Z1. Made them from 73-75. They had their time in the limelight. They’re getting mega $ for them now, mainly in stock form. Today’s bikes would smoke em though.
