  1. I was fortunate enough to find a very close match to the factory color using one of their standard colors, and since I was repainting the lower portion of the dash also, an exact match wasn’t really necessary. If I recall, I used 2 different types. One for the metal lower and one for the padded vinyl. I was very happy with the results.
  2. Welcome to the club Kevin. Looks like you have yourself a rare beast there.
  3. I’m sorry for the loss of your grandfather Tom. From your post it appears you have a tight knit family and that your grandfather played an important part in that. It’s very honorable of you to help out with the situation your grandmother is faced with. It looks like you have full plate at this time, but don’t be a stranger to the site. Wishing you the best with your new marriage and home. Feel free to vent any time. Mark
  4. If you Google 66 autocolor they can custom mix the SEM using your interior color number and have it in an aerosol for you. There is an info form to fill out.
  5. SEM has a pretty wide variety of colors in aerosol cans. I found a close match for the dash on my Buick and was happy with the coverage. Or you could have an automotive paint supplier mix you up an exact match vinyl dye using your interior color number from your body tag also. Not sure if you could get it in an aerosol though. There is a company out here in California called Just Dashes that can restore your dash to factory. They’re not cheap and with shipping it could be costly. They do dashes for restorers all over the country.
  6. How did you find that? Looks like 35mm film. Never knew anything like that existed.
  7. Really enjoyed that thank you. Got a kick out of the “like a woman with the rare combination of beauty and brains” quote while sitting here with my wife watching this. Had to “rewind” so she could hear it again. I’m on the sofa tonight.
  8. I’m a little skeptical about whether he’ll be able to recoup his investment. Depending on what state he lived in he could have 7-9k in sales tax to add to that.
  9. The only sounds I remember were the clanking of the wrench to loosen the bolts holding it to the bracket. Then while pointing it in the general direction of the mountain where all the local transmission towers were and slowly rotating it while my father was in front of the tv yelling “ok, that’s it, tighten it up!”
  10. Some nice looking cars you have/had. Love the blue on that 70.
  11. Fisher Body. Yes, seen it before. Good video. The good old days.

    Hello

As you can see Jim, we’ve been known to drift off topic at times.
  13. Good for you. That pump and backing plate really look clean for 12 years. That’s the type of service that keeps you coming back.
  14. I’ve been researching bushings and have been leaning toward PSTs Polygraphite. They still have to be lubed, but according to PST they are less prone to squeaking than polyurethane. Does anyone have any experience with them? I’ve also checked Ridetechs Delrin bushings that don’t require any lubrication. Unfortunately because they don’t make them in the oval style, I’d need to change my lower control arms to the round type and I really don’t want to. Opinions welcome. Thank You. By the way Joe, I’m going with the Bilsteins. I see some carry them in black.
  15. It looks to me like the 4 buckles in the center are the same. If the 2nd from the left were flipped over and the buckle turned face up, they’d all match.

    Hello

I thought it looked familiar. Was that your 11000 mile car?
  17. Spent a lot of time looking and zooming in on the photos of that one. Overall well detailed and what appears to be recent work done including the seats. The rear is definitely not right. The underneath photos had me looking the closest. The upper ball joints need to be adressed along with the routing of the e brake cables. There’s a lot of goop somewhat haphazardly slathered on the floors especially in the trunk area. Don’t mean to take anything away from the car. It is a beautiful car and would do well at local shows. But for that kind of money it deserves to be scrutinized closely.

    Hello

Cool! Another new member. Welcome to the club Jim. Having owned 6, I’ll bet you know a thing or two about them. Post some pictures of what you have and had.
  19. Lengthy read for sure, but well worth it. Thanks so much for the info. I never had a clue how complex and critical this subject was. I learned a ton.
  20. I screen shot this from one of Joes sources.
  21. The other thing I’ve noticed is the amount of vehicles listed in Hemmings that are dealer sales. I tried to find some percentages but it appears to be at least 75-80%. How many are consignment I don’t know, but they must have buyers at auctions. Otherwise where are they getting them from. It seems endless. One dealer I noticed (beginning with the letter V) asks top dollar, and it makes me wonder who’s buying these things? I know Barrett saves the real high dollar stuff for the prime time viewing. I guess to the investors it’s no different than playing the stock markets. So many of the vehicles seem to be on a revolving tour of the auction houses.
  22. Some of my water is about 2 years old. Still crystal clear. Wasn’t aware of a specific antifreeze for aluminum though.
  23. That’s what I do. I think I have about 10 gallons. Walmart carries it for about a buck a gallon.
  24. I’m on a well also. I have a whole house filter and a softener. Water from softeners using salt is not recommended for irrigation do to high salt content. I’m forced to use potassium in mine ($35/50lb. verses about $7/50lb. for salt) because when we built our house the plumber hooked all my hose bibs to the softener instead of just the one in front of my garage like I asked. So my water has a higher concentration of potassium, which the plants like, but not going to use it in my vehicles. Ron’s comment about salt water made me bring this up.
