  1. Thanks Richard....The '70 had the rounded mushroom looking knobs and the '71-72's had the knobs you're referring to. There were no wonderbar's just regular push buttons. Dave
  2. Richard, I don't have any pic's handy but I'm sure someone will. There are 3 types...standard AM....AM/FM....and Radio with built in 8 track (not sure if the are AM or AM/FM)....which one do you want or does it matter....Dave...
  3. I would say if you're happy with the car the way it is and it doesn't run hot then don't mess with something that's working for you....
  4. I agree with you Dan, I think the TH400 is one of the most reliable units you can get. It's simple, strong, tried and true plus there is already tons of knowledge everywhere on how to make them work. For folks who want to go on road trips I can see the desire for some kind of overdrive and that's a matter of choice. For me personally I like to keep things as simple as possible and od just adds another variable I don't need. I'm not in a hurry these days, I don't need to go 75mph on the highway so a 3:73 or 3:42 is just fine. Most BBlk's are not high rever's, anything lower is questionable anyway unless some tall tires are out back. I have found that the desire to push for more rpm's doesn't always translate to faster times/speeds. If you have truly built a 7000rpm+ motor then that's a different story...JMO
  5. just so I can follow this, what kind of secondaries is everyone using? I thought Tim said his were vaccum, apples and apples otherwise this discussion goes nowhere. Also for my education (it's all about me ya know) where does cam profile and ignition timing and advance curve come into play? Acceleration and response can't be all about the carb. I know Holley warns about the secondaries opening too early as some set them up to do. If they open early and there is not sufficient velocity fuel will not be pulled into the venturi and the motor will lay down until it catches up. This results in the "kick in the pants" feeling you get when everything kicks in...just want to keep up with everybody....
  6. well Tim, except for the stall coverter, Holley, B&M shifter, MSD........
  7. mine was custom built too, company named Coan. It drives just about as you describe, pretty happy with it Joel....
  8. Hi Joel, you didn't say what stall speed you have but my Chevelle is 3500 and it did soften the 1-2 shift (low speed). The Monte is 2500 and it stayed pretty much the same. A lot can depend on the converter itself, some are looser than others at low speed so that can affect the shift action as well...Dave
  9. hey Ken, I don't think anyone's going to laugh at someone at the track, especially in a Monte. I can't wait to get Red's out there, she's anxious to run her Monte and see what it will do (as soon as it's out of paint). I just started running the Chevelle a couple of months ago so after a while you just go and see how good you can do. In case you're interested my lastest adventure in the Chevelle is in General Forum, "weekend at Fontana"...Dave btw...what did it do on your first pass???
  10. uh slur.....hiccup......slur.....all this time I thought it was just wine...
  11. here's my vote...if you want a smooth, quiet, easy shifting trans the M21 (or M20 if you want a wide ratio).....don't mind some noise and need something strong...M22....guess that leaves the super T10, my experience with them has not been super....
  12. thanks....haven't had it on the scales yet Joe...on my list of things to do....yeah Monte should debut in October..latest track time is in General Forum... Dave
  13. when I get ours out I'm going to do the same....
  14. I'll bet it's close.....
  15. way to go Mike!!! Those are awesome low end times for a 4000 lbs car.
  16. just to let everyone know I finally got the ceramic header polish and it works pretty good. On the tough stain areas I used some carb cleaner with very fine steelwool, wiped it off and then polished. Came out very good. If interested go to www.carchemistry.com they have the polish and a kit that includes a polish rag...FYI Dave
  17. oh sure Steve...the truth finally comes out....
  18. thanks Robyn, gonna try again this weekend....
  19. Luck!!! you don't need no stinkin' luck.....it's gonna work Royce... besides you can't sell the car....we have a race date.....
  20. Bill you needto start watching PassTime, that's where I learn all this lingo....
  21. We are running that exact combo, standard spacing, no issues....Dave
  22. Royce, I don't remember if you told me but what pump are you using?
  23. Royce I've used both locations and never really had trouble with either. I did change the one that was half way up the frame to the rear location like the other car. Conventional wisdom is most likely that the rear location allows the system to under pressure for the entire distance. I'm sure there are others with stronger views and experience but up until these two cars I really never got involved with electric pumps. Dave
