  1. Hey All, Been spending the Winter touching up paint chips (my 1st experience)! I 1st stripped the wax from car and a fair job to date on paint repairing. Yesterday I was rubbing car with Maquires #9 Compound to remove scratches and the dull finish where I was sanding paint repair(s). A guy walking up the street said nice car and asked me if it was a 1966 or 67. A little confused, I told him 1972. He squinted at the Rear Tail Panel to read the script and at which point I told him it is a Monte Carlo. Now I don't really have a mental picture for a Cadillac of year(s) stated, but he told me that's what he thought it was. At 1st I thought "what a Goof" but after consideration looked at his mistake as a compliment. Imagine what that type of comparison says about the styling. Yeah, you can call it a Cadillac anytime...................... Doug
  2. Thanks for the Heads up Steve. I will add to data base and make notations for future reference. Doug
  3. I wonder if that's true with everyone? My Browser is Google Chrome & I needed a patch from them to view my pic/s after Photobucket decided to charge for pic storage. What Browser are you using Aaron? Doug
  4. Hmm! I can see it. Not sure what to think now...................... Doug
  5. There is a High Speed Fan Relay that sits on top and inboard side of the under hood A/C box. That is where I would start checking for voltage. Doug
  6. Okay Willie & Eric. I have updated your most recent information. Periodically, I will post the most recent additions and will show on the next update. Doug
  7. Hi Steve, Back when Photobucket decided to charge for picture storage & I did not sign up, I lost my signature pic. I use Google Chrome as my Browser & found a Patch that I downloaded that got my signature pic back. Try a search using your Browser & Photobucket Patch words in your search. I stumbled across it as I am not so computer literate that I knew what I was doing........................... If this doesn't help, someone will give you better information directly I am sure. Doug
  8. Here is the latest update for 72 Custom Population numbers. Please verify your info. Abbreviations were added to this most current update to aid in identification of those options. Again, as I get more info, I will update periodically. Doug
  9. There is a well known Upholstery Shop in Canby, Oregon that seems to have sold cloth material for our era cars. Someone will likely chime in the name unless I can remember it first. The Reveal Belt Molding was an option on any 1972 Monte Carlo and were standard as you noted only on the Customs. Doug
  10. Thanx Larry. I am not sure what the consistency of the paint should be. What I have in the bottles are at least 5 years old I bought some universal thinner and it blended well to thin out one of the small bottles I have purposely left the other thicker in case I need to adjust the thinned paint. I am experimenting and think I will need to reduce more as when applied, leaves a somewhat rough surface. Shouldn't I expect to see the paint lay flat when applied if at right consistency? Not getting much help from the paint store supplier. I think they don't want to do or say anything that may make them liable. Because I have no reference other than reading material, it doesn't explain well enough how to know when paint is at optimum consistency. Doug
  11. Hey all, I am in the process of repairing paint chips and looking for some suggestions on best practices. I was given the okay to try experimenting on a white 65 Chev Belair with mixed results. Firstly, this is my 1st attempt to do this myself. I am using extra paint that was left over and given to me when all the Jams were painted among other painting needs. I believe it is a single stage enamel paint that is now at least 5 years old and has thickened some over time. I tried using it but when sanding does not seem to fill in around the damaged edges. When sanding and blending it leaves that border with a dark like witness around edges suggesting the paint did not flow out into the edges. I am just getting my feet wet attempting this and am getting ready for my 3rd attempt on the area I am having problems with. I have read and watched the tutorials and basic knowledge of what to use. 2 repairs done on rear passenger quarter panel turned out pretty well but still, paint doesn't seem to be filling in around all the edges even at these small repairs. Once I have perfected my expertise on my Brothers car, I plan to start working on mine once I perfect my technique. I told my Brother as long as he has a NOS Front Driver side Fender and Passenger Rear Quarter, he can get it back into shape should I fail miserable............ What type of thinner would be correct for a enamel based paint? What about Reducer? I am told it takes a long time for the paint to dry without some sort of hardener added. Again, paint was left over from other painting wants in a couple small bottles. So that is what I am really after is how/what should I do to deal with the Paint consistency. My Paint/Body guy died a few years back and I am left to my own devices now......................... I could leave it to a expert but I want to see how I do................................. No pics until I start on my car...................... Doug
  12. I'll try and remember to fix that next time I update. I remember it took some time to show up when I joined. Doug
  13. I know of one other in the Club but is a Tribute Willie. I remember there are 3 others owned by Club Members but none are serviceable and are being used for parts. Other than that, I have not heard of others in the Club. I updated your info and will Post it soon. Doug
  14. Hey Willie, the (CC) is for Cruise Control and thanks for the Props.. Oops! I just noticed I forgot to rotate that Pic before I posted it. I'll see if I can't fix that. Any changes are welcome so no apologies necessary. Doug
  15. Pull one of squirter hoses and see if it's dry on the end, if so you aren't getting water to the squirters which once primed still don't work you need a windshield washer Pump. When mine went out it was the o-ring(s) that allowed water to spray everywhere but onto the windows and could be seen when pump ran. I tried the o-ring kit but did not seal. Doug
  16. If the wiper washer pump is dead and won't pump when prompted, you need a new washer pump. But first offer more info on what does/doesn't happen when you try to use squirters. Sometimes if hoses are dry and no water in the pump, pump needs primed with water. Lack of water may be your problem. If ordering a new washer pump, make sure it is the correct one for your vehicle. Use your search function or wait to see if anyone can provide you a part number based on year of your car. Some have park and others don't as an example. If you have an OHM Meter, you can check resistance and also if getting power to the pump. Here is some info I just located......................................................... There are 2 styles of wiper washer pumps. One #DA90228 comes with circuit board(s) while to other is a Manual Pump? Note: For 1970-1972 Monte Carlo without concealed wipers, please see Part # DA90228. http://www.dixierestorationdepot.com/Product/Search.aspx Doug
  17. Here is the latest and greatest. Please review & advise if any changes. i have Notes on the r/h side of page where applicable that can't be seen on Spread Sheet due to space limitations. They are for helping me keep track. Doug
  18. I do have it on spread sheet & will Post latest info for your review soon. When ever you see the Spread Sheet Posted, it will have the most recent information and generally will be an update or revised information. Doug
  19. I figured so Aaron but he acted so surprised when I told him we were returning from a previous year and after identifying who we were, I felt is was worth a FYI just in case. He did say that he would advise the Parking Committee to accommodate us as a Group. I estimated 24 vehicles............... Doug
  20. Having problems with online registration & contacted event organizer. Problem determined at my end, so will try a different browser for registration & payment. While talking I was asked who I was with and I informed them the FGMCC and that we had attended in 2010 as a WM Car Club, expecting around 24 cars estimated this year. He was excited that we are returning and said he would try to see we had group parking for the Venue. Aaron might want to confirm with them @ (503) 309-0041. I let them know our event organizer may contact them at this number. Doug
  21. I added those things that were blank to the Spread Sheet Willie. The Data Base is to large for me to detail all those options but included the most common to identify per car. As we progress, the Data Base may change where improvements are identified. As this is a Work in Progress, timing isn't all that important other than it helps me to manage that information when received timely. Thanx Willie.......................... Doug
  22. Thanx Darren for the info. I will include it in the data base. To date, I have 12 confirmed. If you buy it back, nine of those twelve would be owned by FGMCC members if my math is right................... Doug
  23. If a Posi Rear Axle, will need the Posi Oil additive as well. Doug
  24. Thanx Jeff. I added to the data base. Doug
  25. The thread I remember reading was a select group of guys did some sort of analysis and came up with a guestimated 1200 produced (that I would consider a conservative estimate). What I want to know is how many serviceable Customs are still around. Doug
