  1. Expensive gauges, but it looks really great!
  2. Wow! Exterior is close to what I'm trying to achieve with my Monte, I like it!
  3. Wow ! I didn't know they still make brand new MonteCarlo Congrats
  4. Hi, some updates ; I finally bought a used 5.3 from a junkyard on ebay. The seller gave me a lot of information about the engine and the truck it was pulled from. I ended up paying 700$ including harness, front accessories, drive by wire pedal assembly and shipping.
  5. That explain why my Monte has no has no has tray light. Aux light would be a nice upgrade
  6. Thank you Vince. Telephone is a bit tricky as i'm not fluent in english! I'm currently looking car-part.com low mileage engine. There are a lot of complete engines in my budget( between $500 and $700). I'm not sure if it's the best solution. I often read "engine tested" "runs good" or "good compression" but can I trust junkyards ?
  7. Hi Vincent, Are you happy with your engine? Do you swap the stock LM7 cam too?
  8. Didn't know this site, thanks for the tips!
  9. I'm seriously considering swapping a LS engine in my 72. As I do not live in the U.S, I know I will have to spend a big amount of money in shipping and taxes, so I'm trying to find the best deal. LQ4 or LM7 are on my wish-list, and spend a lot of time watching Craigslist ads for LS engines. Most of the engines are around 1k$. On the other hand, many online magazine like hotrod.com says they get their motor for 500$ in a junkyard. Are sellers on Craigslist going crazy with prices?! I forget to mention that I'm looking for an engine with accessories but no harness or ECM.
  10. Hi Larry, Cars is time and money consuming hobby. I totally understand what you mean when you say "more important things". Wish you the best of luck
  11. Hi Bruce! Thank you for sharing! It's very inspirational! You did a nice job with Wordpress
  12. Thanks for your inputs. Like Rick did, I will begin with trunk. It's still in pretty good shape, but it's getting more and more water and has some surface rust. As you said, epoxy primer will be applied on bare metal. The car is parked outside my house, so any work I start have to be finished as fast as possible.
  13. Hi, I own my 72 Monte since 72. The car spent most of his life in Orange County and I shipped it to Europe in 2011. Climate is pretty wet here and surface rust appeared on multiple place. The rear window channel has a bas spot, and water leaks through the trunk and cabine. On the plus side, engine is running well, and tranny shifts firmly. Interior is nice. I have no special skills at bodywork but I'm ok to learn. I'm looking for some guidance on how to restore my while I keep driving it ? What are the good practices ? I know my question may sounds a bit dumb, but I do not want to start work I won't finish. Thank you
  14. I really like your work ! It looks awesome in a Monte. The arm rest wasn't an option ?
  15. Hi Larry, Yes, I've seen it on Jegs. I guess I have to cut the firewall in order to make it fully functional ... ? What about rain ? I would really know if it works well, and if it's worth the money.
  16. Hi, I was wondering if someone ever did that mod on a Monte ? An air intake from firewall routed to the air cleaner with no special hood involved. A bit like Nascar airbox... Something like this :
  17. I'm not sure I want to invest money in the stock heads. Sure I will rebuild the bottom end. What's the cost of a short block rebuild ?
  18. I know the relay is under the hood, on the driver side of the firewall but I don't know where all wires goes...
  19. Hey guys ! My engine (L65) is stock except intake & carb, I have bad valve guides and I wonder what is the best thing to do with it. It has 104 000 miles on it, never rebuilt. What would you do ? Like most of us, I have a limit amount of money to spend on it, no more than 2500$. Also I should consider import fees as I live in France (for exemple if I buy 250$ headers, It will cost me twice...). Do you think that a basic engine rebuild + new aluminium heads is possible ? My goal is to have a reliable 400hp engine. Thanks in advance...
  20. Hi all, I no longer use TCS in my Monte. I know this may sound dumb question, but I want to remove all TCS wiring and relay on my 72 Monte and I am not sure how to do it correctly. Any help would be appreciated
  21. Hi, According to this page, it looks like my rear end is a 7.5". Is that possible ? Here is a pic What do you think ?
